Gallo Ham & Tomato Risotto Box (Tesco) [By @SpectreUK]

This Gallo Ham & Tomato Risotto Box came with a big pink ‘slot together’ fork which Cinabar immediately nicked for her lunch box. I settled for the usual metal fork favoured for hot meals, as plastic and heat never go well together. The 325g pot contained 460 calories, with 10g of fat and took just over a minute to cook in a 1000 watt microwave oven. The ingredients included precooked rice, tomato, ham, carrageenan, olive oil, canola oil, onion, oregano, pepper, and paprika amongst other things. There was a warning on the cardboard sleeve that stated the factory in France that this Gallo Ham & Tomato Risotto Box was manufactured in also used milk, gluten, soy, mustard, celery, fish and crustaceans... sounds like a pretty busy factory to me! Anyway, after leaving the pot to cool I could smell the mild herby tomato sauce and readily mixed the rice and the sauce together with my metal fork. There was a mild herby and spicy flavour from the oregano and pepper mixed in with the full and flavoursome tomato sauce. There was also plenty of chubby rice and succulent pieces of ham mixed in with the sauce. There was an ample supply of sticky wet tomato sauce that made the rice shiny and clump together with chunks of ham to form easy to eat mouth sized balls of risotto. I found this a very tasty very quick to prepare and healthy feeling microwave meal, which went down very well with a chunky piece of brown bread with some salt and vinegar crisps on the side. There was still a part of me that wanted some chunks of pineapple in this risotto. I know, I know... then it wouldn’t have been a risotto of course, but something almost resembling sweet and sour. Yet, this was a lovely alternative, especially if you’re like Cinabar who hates sweet and sour, but I’m sure she would love this Ham & Tomato Risotto Box. This one was all mine though and she’ll have to fight me for the next one!
