McCoy’s Blazin’ Buffalo Chicken Wings Flavour crisps (Morrisons) By @SpectreUK

McCoy’s Blazin’ Buffalo Chicken Wings Flavour crisps

Not that I watch much sport, but The Real McCoy's have brought this limited edition NFL Blazin' Buffalo Chicken Wings Flavour crisps out for the American Football season. I do like hot chicken wings, so I'm looking forward to what these crisps taste like. However, I picked up a bug the other day, so I'm hoping they'll go easy on my poorly tummy.

On opening the bag there was a sweet, smoky, and spicy smell of barbecue sauce and paprika, with chicken behind it. On taste these reddish coloured McCoy's Blazin' Buffalo Chicken Wings Flavour ridged crisps had a sweet smoky barbecue flavour with a chilli kick, a heavy paprika spiciness, and chicken wings flavour into the aftertaste. These crisps were very flavoursome indeed, and went very well with my barbecue chicken sandwich for lunch.

Information on the packet; The 25g bag contained 132 calories, with 7.8g of fat, less than 0.5g of sugar, and 0.14g of salt. Please see photograph for the ingredients.

McCoy’s Secret Burger Sauce Flavour Crisps (Tesco) By @SpectreUK

McCoy’s Secret Burger Sauce Flavour Crisps

I love a good burger and chips, especially for a quick stop on the way back from a comic con or toy fair. I love the meatiness, the relish, tomato and barbecue sauces, a seedless bun, and plenty of fries. These limited edition NFL McCoy's Secret Burger Sauce Flavour Crisps may make a quick treat instead of the calories from a real burger.

On opening the packet there was a mild pickle aroma from the crisps inside. On first taste there was a cheesy flavour with dill and gherkins. I liked the flavour, don't get me wrong. I don't know why, but I was hoping for a meaty flavour too.

I know these McCoy's Secret Burger Sauce Flavour crisps are burger sauce flavour, but I couldn't help wanting the beef that goes with it. The whole point of a burger sauce is that it compliments a beef burger. Perhaps it's just me. Maybe I'll look for a sauce to dip them in.

McCoys Epic Eats Spicy Salsa (Tesco) By @cinabar

McCoys Epic Eats Spicy Salsa

More new crisps! I have been waiting for new flavours for ages, and now we have quite a few interesting ones all coming out at once. It feels like an autumn rush, and I am enjoying every minute. McCoys has not disappointed; they have a few good new flavours, and at the top of my tasting pile are these McCoys Epic Eats Spicy Salsa.

There is definitely a Mexican theme to some of the new varieties, and everyone loves tomato salsa. The crisps are ridged, which helps hold the seasoning on for a more intense flavour. The potato is also fairly thickly cut for a good crunch. The flavour was my favourite so far of the new McCoys taste. The tomato was pleasantly sharp, not sweet like a ketchup variety. There was a background herb taste that shone through, and there was a very gentle amount of spice too. I found myself thinking these were superior to tomato ketchup crisps, which is quite a statement. I liked the added depth to the flavour and the fact that they were slightly less sweet. One thing though is that these are called'spicy' salsa, and although there is a bit of warmth, they are actually much milder than even the McCoys Bangin Barbecue variety was.

McCoys Epic Eats Bangin BBQ Crisps (Tesco) By @cinabar

McCoys Epic Eats Bangin BBQ Crisps

It seems ages since we found new crisps to write about. I’m not sure what happened, but none of the big names had any exciting new releases over the summer, which is unusual. Autumn has hit now, and suddenly I can find new flavours again. I found these crisps and a couple of other multipacks too, the lady on the till must have thought I had a crisp problem. It turns out I do.

First up on the taste test are McCoys Epic Eats Bangin BBQ. I love barbecue sauce, so I was ready for these. I gave them a try. First of all, they have that nice McCoys texture, thick crunchy, but somehow not too crisp. The flavour, though, wasn’t what I was expecting; it does taste of a mild barbecue sauce, and the Bangin element arrives in the form of some chilli heat. I don’t associate BBQ sauce with chilli; there is a warmth to the sauce but not a heat, and these crisps had a heat. I don’t mind spicy crisps; it just felt a little out of place somehow. Nice enough crisps, though, if you don’t mind a bit of spice.

The Real McCoy’s Epic Eats Chip Shop Curry Sauce Crisps (Sainsbury’s) by @Spectreuk

The Real McCoy’s Epic Eats Chip Shop Curry Sauce Crisps

I haven't had fish and chips from our local chippy for a while. I always have chip shop curry sauce as a dip for my chips. I usually go absolutely mad with the salt, so to find that these new The Real McCoy's Epic Eats Chip Shop Curry Sauce Crisps are 45% less in salt is a bonus.

I know these McCoy's Chip Shop Curry Sauce Crisps won't taste exactly like my local chippy's excellent chips dipped in their equally excellent chip shop curry sauce, but I'm hoping for ridge cut potato crisps that taste pretty close, and certainly at least reminiscent. Having said that, I don't think I've ever tried a Real McCoy's crisp that I haven't liked. bonus.

On opening the bag there was the familiar aroma of sweet Chippy shop curry sauce to the slightly yellowed ridged crisps inside. On first crunchy taste these Real McCoy's Epic Eats Chip Shop Curry Sauce Crisps were a little sweeter than my usual chip shop curry chip dip, and with a little more of a chilli burn. Having said that, these ridged cut crisps certainly lived up to their tasty design. Moreish to the extreme I finished the bag of these crisps pretty quickly, and was rather pleased that Cinabar had bought two multipacks. bonus.

Information on the packet; 6 in the multipack, this 25g bag contained 132 calories, with 7.8g of fat, 0.6g of sugar, and 0.14g of salt. Please see photograph for the ingredients.

McCoy’s Fire Pit Peri-Peri Crisps (Asda) By @Cinabar

McCoy’s Fire Pit Peri-Peri Crisps

It seems hot and spicy crisps are the in flavour at the minute and the latest offering are these McCoy’s Fire Pit Peri-Peri variety. They are a crinkle cut crisps and as they are McCoys they are also quite thick cut and crunchy. I poured some out onto the plate to have with a sausage roll. The crisps seem to have a fair bit of seasoning and smelt nice and spicy. The crinkles always catch lots of spice.

McCoy’s Fire Pit Peri-Peri Crisps

I gave one a try and was impressed with the heat, the chilli was quite strong which is unusual with crisps. Weirdly though there was a sweet aftertaste. I tried a few more and as much as I was enjoying the heat and the spice I was distracted by the sugar. I think this was supposed to be a way of making the McCoy’s Fire Pit Peri-Peri Crisps crisps tangy but it didn’t work for me. Hot then sweet and can work as a dish, I’ve eaten many a meal with noodles with that flavour but here it just ended up as fiery followed by random sugar. As much as I liked the fact the crisps are hot and actually pack a proper heat, that blast of sugar meant these won’t be a repurchase.

McCoys Muchos Cool Sour Cream and Onion (Asda) By @Cinabar

McCoys Muchos Cool Sour Cream and Onion

When I think of McCoys crisps I always think of crisps which are thick, crinkle cut and substantial. They are the sort of crisps that fill you up and are full of flavour. These are a whole new product from the company; McCoys Muchos Sour Cream and Onion. They are based on a Mexican Street Food, where a small round tortilla is folded and toasted.

I think these McCoys Muchos crisps could be nice served with a dip, but we decided to have them with our lunch time sandwiches. The crisps were mostly semi-circles, but there were quite a few broken bits there too. I have to admit that Sour Cream and Onion sounded like quite a mild flavour for these McCoys Muchos and I was expecting something quite easy going. I was pleased to discover that they explode flavour on the palette. Firstly the texture is lovely and crispy and the sections have air in them that enhanced the crunch when you bite through the layers. The flavour does the all the elements of sour cream, but there is a full flavour from onion and a splash of lemon juice too, and this acidic mix works remarkably well with the other tastes and the sour cream. I had been expecting something quite mild and I got a wonderful taste sensation, yes they would go well with a dip but they hold on to their own on their own too. I was very impressed, so much so I have added the other new flavour to my next online order, McCoys Muchos Nacho Cheese, and I can’t wait to dig in.

McCoys Chip Shop Curry Sauce Chips Crisp (Asda) By @Cinabar

It has been a few months since I wrote about McCoys Chips Chip Shop Salt and Vinegar Crisps, but I still remember how good they were. They had a good dose of vinegar and a lovely zingy flavour.
On a recent trip to Asda I spotted another flavour in the range, these Chip Shop Curry Sauce Chips. Now I have to admit that I don’t tend to eat chip shop curry sauce (as in from a chippy) very often, I usually avoid those kind of sauces on my chips. I don’t go for anything more than ketchup and occasionally mayo. Having said that I do like the curry sauce flavour, I guess I’m just a bit traditional.
Anyway I opened up the bag and remembers how cool the shape of these crisps are, they are designed to look a little like actual chips. The seasoning on them looked heavy and had a good aromatic sent, they were fairly orangey in colour, which meant hopefully the flavour would be strong.
The flavour was outstanding, the curry sauce was spot on. There was a nice (but not hot) flavour of spices, and creaminess with a sweetness to them. They were very moreish and very enjoyable to munch on. I like the fluffy but crunchy texture, and felt it worked well with the favour. Mostly though I had no idea curry sauce could taste this good. I’m going to have to have to get myself a pot of curry sauce from our local chip shop and see if it is in the same league, because eI think I may be a curry sauce convert.

McCoys Chips - Chip Shop Salt and Vinegar Crisps (Morrisons) By @Cinabar

When I'm looking round the supermarket trying to decided what to review I obviously search out all the new products, but some of them I don't even pick up. I usually ignore the products that say new but don’t look interesting, and I almost put these crisps into that category. I thought they were just a rehash of regular McCoys Salt and Vinegar which I've had a million times, but oh my word I'm glad curiosity got the better of me. One quick smell from the newly opened sharing bag and I knew that these were something special, the aroma was full on and oh so appetising.

The crisps are surprisingly different to look at. The shape of them is long and thin so they are actually chip shaped, but they are still ridged. The texture is fantastic, they feel quite aerated, and fluffy in a crunchy kind of way. I liked this thick but light texture. The flavour is stunning too and the ridges on the crisps intensify it by letting all the flavours granules accumulate in them. Now the flavour, this is where these new crisps hit the mark. The flavour of salt and vinegar is strong, its like a bag of fish shop chips that has been heavily overloaded with too much seasoning. You have to like salt and vinegar to go for these, but if you do the flavour is out of this world. The strong acidic vinegar taste intermingling with the heavy salt left for a flavour combination that left my mouth tingling and immediately craving another crisp. Wow, just wow. Possibly the perfect salt and vinegar crisps.
Buying new things to review each week means I rarely buy the same items again, but I've added two more sharing bags of these to next weeks online grocery order because they are so darn lip smacking tasty.

New McCoy’s Firepit Sizzlers Crisps (Waitrose) [By @SpectreUK]

I’ve always enjoyed McCoy's ridge-cut crisps made by KP Snacks. I've found that whatever flavour I eat, which could be anything from Salted flavour to Lamb Vindaloo, or my favourite Flame Grilled Steak flavour, they are always bursting with flavour. McCoy’s already have a few barbecue flavours out like Barbecue Chicken and BBQ Ribs, so when Cinabar brought back these new McCoy’s Smokehouse Inspired Fire Pit Sizzlers I was keen to dig in.

Buffalo Chicken Wings

Of course of heard of Buffalo Chicken Wings, but I've never been sure as to why they’re called Buffalo Chicken Wings. Buffalos don’t have wings, unless it’s derived from a prehistoric chicken which had massive wings? If it was then it probably still couldn’t fly very well, but the Buffalo Chicken’s eggs must have been five times the size of an Emu egg. I'm sure one egg boiled in a huge pot could breakfast a prehistoric family of eighteen and their pet monkey. I'd also bet that the empty egg shell was used as a prehistoric bath, but just don’t ask where the bubbles came from. Though they may have something to do with eating the huge boiled egg!

There was a smoky chicken smell on opening the bag. These crisps had a lovely chicken and rich smoky tangy barbecue sauce flavour. Flavours that stood out amongst the smoky barbecue chicken goodness on eating these orange coloured ridge-cut crisps were paprika, and also hints of sage and onion. I enjoyed the smokiness in the barbecue flavour which mixed well with the chicken. I’d certainly have this Buffalo Chicken Wings flavour again.

Information on the packet;
30g bag with 159 calories, 9g of fat and 0.8g of sugar. Ingredients see photograph.

Hickory Smoked BBQ Ribs

I’ve always loved a good rack of barbecue ribs in a restaurant. If I see barbecue ribs on the menu I will generally pick them out to have a try. To me it’s like trying the lasagna in an Italian restaurant. If the lasagna isn’t burnt to a crisp on the outside and dry in the middle, the chef generally knows what they’re doing. Some restaurants do a rack of sizzling ribs that can turn out to be burnt to a crisp, dry and almost inedible. Others do a full rack with juicy sweet barbecue sauce smeared all over it, with chips or potato fries and some salad on the side. This is the best way to enjoy a rack of barbecue ribs in my opinion.

There was a deep woody hickory smoked barbecue smell on opening the bag, which made my mouth water for the crunchy ridge-cut crisps inside. I was surprised at the initial bacon taste on eating these orange coloured crisps. This flavour was almost replaced by a sweet barbeque sauce flavour, which was sadly not very smoky or bursting with the flavour I’ve always been accustomed to where McCoy’s crisps are concerned. This barbecue flavour was quiet subtle with no taste of the hickory that had tickled my nostrils on opening the bag. Don't get me wrong, I certainly didn't dislike these crisps at all. However these crisps were not as sweet, tangy and tasty as the BBQ Ribs flavour in McCoy’s range, and out of the two flavours reviewed in this blog, I’d pick the Buffalo Chicken Wings flavour any day. MOOO… BUCK… BUCK… BUCK!

McCoys Ultimate Chargrilled Steak & Peri Peri Crisps (Tesco) [By @Cinabar]

If you like crisps with flavour the new range from McCoys is really going to get your attention. The crisps have very deep ridges, to collect lots of flavour, and they have been seasoned twice to really add a special taste sensation! The new range is available in big sharing bags, perfect for a night in with a movie and to share with friends. I spotted these new crisps online on the Tesco site and also added the two other new flavours to our shop; Sea Salt + Black Pepper and Sizzling BBQ Chicken. It was Spectres choice to go for these steak ones first!
Once the bag was opened the initial aroma was very much that of steak, they smelt beefy with a hint of barbecue too. I couldn’t pick up on much peri peri in the aroma, so had to wait and see on that one. The ridges looked very thick and the seasoning on them looked dark with flavour, so I couldn't wait to tuck in.
The crunch was lovely, the thick ridges meant they were quite satisfying to munch on, without them being to tough or sharp. The best part was the flavour, they had this fab steak taste, with the almost smokey chargrilled flavour following next. Just when your tastebuds are full appreciating the meatiness of the seasoning, there is a gentle tingle of warmth that starts to develop. A few seconds later and the chilli flavour hits full power and the warmth has become full on peri peri goodness! Wow they had a good kick, which combined with the rich meatiness made them ever so moreish! They might be designed for sharing but they are the kind of crisps you’ll end up fighting over! I seriously can’t wait to try the Sizzling BBQ Chicken ones next!

McCoys – New Jacket Potato Crisps – Melted Cheese & Bacon (Waitrose) [By @cinabar]

This is the second bag I’ve tried from the new Jacket Potato range from McCoy’s, the first being the Chilli Con Carne. It strikes me that cheese and bacon isn’t a jacket potato topping I’ve ever actually tried. I’ve had beans and cheese, tuna and cheese and a multitude of others with cheese, but not bacon. I guess it just seems a bit odd putting a rasher on top of the jacket potato? Or are you supped to dice it and then mix it with cheese? Don’t get me wrong, if a cheese and bacon sandwich is on offer consider me in! Oh well – I’ got stuck into the crisps anyway.
There isn’t much aroma to the crisps, just a slightly salty smell. The flavour on the other hand, is much more impressive. The thick cut ridged crisps, have loads of seasoning, and when you tuck in you can really tell! The seasoning is distributed unevenly, but that’s okay as the mix of flavours actually works in its favour. On one side some of the crisps have a strong salty meaty bacon taste and other have a musty strong cheddar cheese flavour. A lot are a mix though, and the two tastes do work wonderfully together and make an excellent moreish bag of crisps.
McCoys just know what they are doing! I can’t wait to try the sour cream and jalapeno, which is the only flavour in the new range I haven’t yet tried.

McCoys – New Jacket Potato Crisps – Chilli Con Carne (Waitrose) [By @Cinabar]

McCoys new range of crisps all incorporate a new base jacket potato flavour. Fans of Foodstuff Finds will know I have a soft spot for jacket potato flavour crisps, and think that a plain potato flavour is a good a basic flavour as ready salted. I was a little disappointed to find that the new McCoys range doesn’t include a plain flavour, it focuses on interesting jacket potato toppings. The stronger sounding tastes still appealed, all new flavours are interesting and McCoys rarely go wrong. I decided to try the chilli con carne and jacket potato flavour first, if it’s going to be a strong taste, I may as well go for the hottest sounding ones!
The crisps had a good aromatic spice that was released once the bag was opened. The crisps are thick cut and ridged, with a good sprinkling of seasoning. The ridges mean that the added flavour really clings to the crisps, and the taste was lovely and full on. Impressively the background flavour of jacket potato worked well and added good buttery taste. Mostly though the chilli con carne shone through with meat and spices. The heat from the chilli was flavoursome, but not too hot, just a nice tingle. The spice may have been at an easy going level but the paprika and warm spices added a lovely seasoned flavour. There was a hint of saltiness too that mixed with the chilli flavour and made these crisps remarkably moreish and tasty.
I am really looking forward to trying the other flavours that have come out in the range, and the particularly have my eye on the sour cream and jalapeno ones!

McCoy’s BBQ Ribs (Newsagent) [By @SpectreUK]

These McCoy’s BBQ Ribs have been rebranded from the original Oriental Ribs flavour. The 50g bag of crisps was 261 calories, with 15.2g of fat and 1.8g of sugar. I could see why these crisps were rebranded, as they had a smokier flavour than usual Oriental Ribs. These crisps had an excellent sweet smoky tangy lip smacking barbeque flavour, with the usual full rich flavour that comes bursting forth from any McCoy’s crisp bag. The flavour of the sauce on these crisps would match any BBQ Ribs sauce that I’ve tasted in restaurants such as Chiquitos, and Frankie and Benny’s. I reckon McCoy’s could easily bottle this sauce flavour and sell it in crates. Also on the back of the packet there was a couple of limited edition flavours mentioned that I will have to look out for, which were Bullseye Bangers (suspected sausage flavour!), and also Treble Cheese and Worcester Sauce. Has anyone seen these flavours on sale anywhere, as I’d love to give them a munch? I would definitely have these BBQ Ribs crisps again and I certainly hope they are not a limited edition.

McCoys Rogan-Oh-My-Josh / Mighty Madras [Crisps] (Asda) [By @Cinabar]

I don’t think it is any secret that I like spicy crisps, so when one reader (thanks Allan) alerted me to some new curry crisps on the shelves, I just had to track them down. Despite McCoys not wanting me to buy their crisps, I do anyway as I like them so much. McCoys go to some length to ensure everyone knows they are “man crisps” which bugs me a little being female. :-D

Rogan-Oh-My-Josh
These crisps had a really good smell to them, lots of rich spices and a nice hint of meat too. When I tried them I was impressed by the flavour, the meatiness was clearly lamb, and the spices were well defined, and almost like a Moroccan curry in nature. The heat was pleasant, a decent tingle but not actually strong enough to make me say “Oh My”, despite the fact I really liked the name! Rogan Josh curries are usually a medium in heat, so I felt it was a little on the weak side, but the chilli is still very much present just not offensive.

Mighty Madras
These crisps had an amazing aroma in the bag, like it was packed with chilli, tomato and spices and it was very appetising. The crisps tasted lovely too, they were crammed with lots of flavour and spice, from onion, garlic through to paprika, and I think I picked up on a bit of citrus as an aftertaste too. In smaller print it does say that these are chicken madras flavoured, but there wasn’t much meatiness to them, the spices could just be overpowering it. Heat wise the chilli was very much making its appearance known. They had a good defined chilli heat, that gave a decent burn as I munched through them that was lovely. The only thing is they aren’t as hot as a proper Madras, as I couldn’t never finish a hot curry like, but these were still manageable for me to eat without any hassle.

Both of these varieties of crisps have good flavour, and try to actually meet the specifics of the curry they are representing. So often crisps just end up with a generic curry powder taste, but these had much more to them than that. I thoroughly enjoyed both bags, but although they had far more heat than the usual ‘hot’ crisp, they still may not be as hot as some would like, particularly those brave enough to eat proper Madras!

McCoy’s Limited Edition Chicken Jalfrezi + Lamb Vindaloo flavours [By Spectre] (WH Smiths)

I’ve always been a big fan of McCoy’s chunky ridged crisps. Their offerings are always flavoursome and never fail to impress. My favourite flavour is Flame Grilled Steak, with Mexican Chilli as a close second. When Cinabar passed me these two limited edition curry flavours I couldn’t wait to get stuck in.

Chicken Jalfrezi
These crisps have a spicy Jalfrezi taste to them that drowns out any flavour of chicken, but a spicy curry usually masks any flavour of chicken anyway. The flavour seems so authentic that you can imagine sitting in a dimly lit Indian restaurant tucking into a Chicken Jalfrezi curry and crunching away happily at poppadoms. The fact that this was lunch time at work without the luxury of Cinabar’s company or a cool beer to wash it down with kind of ruined the moment. Having said that, these are probably the tastiest and most authentic flavoured curry crisps I have tasted since the good old days of poppadom crisps. The spice slowly crept up on me part the way through the bag and I felt a few beads of sweat trouble my nose. I really don’t think these should be a limited edition. A bowl of these crisps and a few beers with a good war film sounds like a proper night in to me!

Lamb Vindaloo
There’s a nice reddish colour to these crisps and spicy heat that hits you as you take the first bite. Not enough heat to make you run screaming, but a good tongue tingling temperature that wakes you up after a dull morning in the office. Unlike the chicken flavour, there is a good meat taste somewhere in the background behind all that Vindaloo spice. An image boiled into my head whilst I was chomping away at these ridged crisps of an idyllic summer’s day, a lamb prancing in a green field with a tranquil blue sky above, suddenly the lamb’s gobbled up by the devil holding a flaming pitchfork! The more you eat of these crisps the more you notice the burn. These aren’t the hottest crisps I’ve eaten, and I have a pack of Cofresh hot flavoured crisps in the Foodstuff stock room I’m avoiding at the moment, but they do have a very pleasing spicy heat that makes you look forward to the yoghurt at the end of your lunch.

I’d definitely buy both these flavours again and they should become regulars to the McCoy’s range, not limited edition crisps people will look back on and say; “I remember those McCoy’s curry crisps, they were mmmmmmm goooooooood…..”

McCoy's Sausage Striker Crisps (WHSmiths)

Last week I told you about McCoys new chicken crisps, and this is the other variety in the McCoy’s Limited Edition football flavours.
The chicken crisps were absolutely fantastic, so it has to be said these had a lot to live up to. Opening the pack I was surprised by the tomato edge in the aroma. They were quite different to the other sausage flavoured crisps I’ve eaten. These had a good meaty pork taste, along with a decent hint of seasoning and that lovely tomato flavour mixed in too. Of course the base was the usual thick cut McCoys crinkle crisp, which is hard not to love. The more I ate the more I became convinced that the flavour was actually tomato and sausage casserole flavour. I really enjoyed the bag, they have a good wholesome taste. However out of the two new flavours, the Chicken ones have the edge, as they just recreate the flavour so perfectly.
Have you tried the different varieties? Which did you prefer?

McCoy's Chicken Winger Crisps (WHSmiths)

When I first saw this flavour I have to admit to being confused by the name. I naively assumed that Chicken Winger referred to chicken wings, as in chicken with a sweet and barbecue spicy taste.
It soon became clear that these are just regular chicken flavour, without any of the kick. The Wing in the title refers solely to a football tie in. Despite the lack of tangy taste, these crisps are still something special. They are the usually pleasing thick cut McCoys crunchy base, but the flavour is where it is at. The ridges in McCoys always catch the seasoning, and these do not disappoint on that front either. They taste beautiful. They have a wonderfully full flavoured meatiness to them, and they recreate ‘chicken’ in a way I’ve not seen a crisp do before. The flavour is just such a good match to its name; it was practically juicy in taste! Wow! These are totally fab crisps! If they are a football tie in, and a limited edition – get them while you can!

McCoys Lamb & Mint [Pub Grub] (WH Smiths)

There is something very satisfying about a bag of McCoys. I love the thick potato, and how they aren't too hard when you bite in, and how the ridges gather all the flavour.
So it is always a pleasure when a brand such as this releases a new flavour. This one is from a new Pub Grub range and is Lamb &Mint.
I was impressed to find that the flavour does really taste specifically of rich meaty lamb. However the mint flavour was present, but the strength of it doesn't resemble the sharpness of some mint sauces, as the vinegar element was missing. I did picked up on an after taste of onion, which seemed to balance the whole flavour rather nicely though. These are seriously tasty crisps, and I look forward to trying other varieties in the Pub Grub range.

McCoy’s Sizzling King Prawn (WH Smiths)

Sitting neatly at the top left hand side of the packaging is a label stating “30% less saturated fat”. The label is visible enough, but I felt that it was still somewhat understated. They may not be overly drawing attention to it, but a healthier snack is always appreciated, providing the taste isn’t diminished.
This flavour is “Sizzling King Prawn” and I wasn’t sure what to expect in taste. I did feel that these could be compared to Prawn Cocktail flavour crisps, but without the sweetness that I would usually associate with that taste. There is however a rather nice spice with them, that I wasn’t expecting. These crisps are by no means hot, but the added spice tingle is a lovely addition. Other flavours which I think I picked up on include paprika and tomato.
These are good crisps, and I can assure you that the texture and crunch are full on. However, just for my own personal taste buds, I would have liked more of a sweetness to the flavour just to give them a bit more of an edge.
