New Tic Tac Two Raspberry Lemon (Morrisons) By @Cinabar

New Tic Tac Two Raspberry Lemon

I spotted these new Tic Tac Two Raspberry Lemon by the tills at Morrisons. They were a bit of an impulse buy, so I popped them on the conveyor belt. I noticed that the pack size was slightly bigger than regular Tic Tacs, and the sweets themselves are also larger. These have two colours, with one half pink and the other half white.

Once home, I saw that these new Tic Tacs are made with artificial sweeteners, which lowers the calorie count. I do worry, though, all sweets made with artificial sweeteners seem to carry that warning: “Excessive consumption may produce laxative effects.” It really puts me off. I know sugar isn’t ideal either, but I always end up wondering how many sweets count as excessive.

Anyway, I gave one a try. The flavour was a little more sour than I expected, with the lemon shining through first. This then developed into a sweeter raspberry taste, and it made for a pleasant, fruity sweet. I liked them and ate five, then decided to stop. But these are a nice sweet treat, and the pack isn’t too big to fit in my handbag either, which makes them perfect for travel, much like regular Tic Tacs.

Tic Tac Sprite Lemon-Lime Flavoured (WH Smiths) by @Cinabar

Tic Tac Sprite Lemon-Lime Flavoured

We were on our way back from a night away, and we stopped at a service station for a bit of a break. This gave me the chance to have a nosey around the branch of WH Smiths for Foodstuff Finds. I did manage to find a couple of things to write about, and one of them was these Tic Tac Sprite Lemon-Lime Flavoured Sweets.

The Tic Tac sweets themselves are yellow, which is cool, but they were lacking something. When they did Coca-Cola Tic Tac sweets, they put the cola logo on each one, so seeing these as just yellow seems like an opportunity missed. I gave one a try, and the flavour was gentle to start, and then it became very specifically Sprite. I’m not sure what is so identifiable, but it must be the balance of lemon and lime. I thought this would be a generic lemon lime flavour, but I was surprised that the flavour was so specific to Sprite, which was rather impressive.

These are lovely sweets and were very enjoyable on our drive back home. I still think they could have added a logo to the Tic Tac sweets for super cuteness.

Tic Tac Fresh Grapefruit Mint (WH Smith) By @SpectreUK

Tic Tac Fresh Grapefruit Mint

I only seemed to have Tic Tacs when I was a kid on holiday somewhere in France. I don't know why I only had them in France, as we traveled all over Europe when I was a child being dragged on holiday by my parents. I actually loved the big road trips from where we lived near Birmingham right down to the south of Spain. There were lots of stop offs in different places along the way and quite a few motorway services, which were generally next to the tolls. My favourite Tic Tac flavour was orange. I did try a few other flavours, but orange was always my favourite.

Now I do like grapefruit, especially tart grapefruit juice that makes my face twist a little on drinking first thing in the morning. Grapefruit juice is a good waker-upper. Grapefruit and mint I'm not so sure about. Grapefruit and Mint Tic Tacs with "Cooling Crystals" definitely sounds like it would wake me up in the morning. Although it also sounds a little like a flavour of toothpaste.

These New Tic Tac Fresh Grapefruit Mint are sugar free. I had the timeless pleasure of popping open the top of the plastic Tic Tac box to get to the white slightly flatter looking Tic Tacs than I remember. On first crunchy taste there was certainly a tart zing of grapefruit followed quickly on its heals by a sheer minty flavour, and then a sharp cooling sensation that slapped me around the face a little. Despite the strange flavour combinations and cooling sensation to finish, I actually quite liked the Tic Tac Fresh Grapefruit Mint, but I have to say that they just made me crave the orange flavour. Now where can I get those?

Coca Cola Tic Tac (Co-Op) By @Cinabar

Coca Cola Tic Tac

We are quite lucky in the UK we seem to get a limited edition new variety most years from Tic Tac and some are rather creative. One of my favourites was the rather fun looking Simpsons Tic Tacs from 2018, these were bubblegum flavoured but had Bart Simpson on each sweet which was rather cool. This year we have the new Coca Cola Tic Tac made with real Coca Cola no less. In the world of Pepsi versus Coke I will always be a Coca Cola fan, just to be open and honest about this.
So these new Coca Cola Tic Tac sweets are nicely designed each one containing the logo too in red, they look quite smart, as does the packaging over all. The flavour is good too, it impressively has the classic Coca Cola flavour. They are sweet, but with a nice sour aftertaste that gives them a bit of a tangy twist. I think they recreate the cola flavour well and are a nice flavour kick. Normally these are the kind of sweets I’f have on my desk at work, but I haven’t been there for months. For now I’ve put them on the kitchen table, my new place of work, so I can still have them while updating spreadsheets.

The Simpsons Tic Tac - Bart Simpson Edition (PoundLand) By @Cinabar

As I said previously there are some interesting items for Foodstuff Finds found in PoundLand, and this one certainly hit the mark. These are new a Tic Tac flavour in honour of Bart Simpson, and they are bubblegum!
I loved the packaging on the these sweets, they have Bart Simpsons’ head and a purple pack top, they stood out on the shelf. Each Tic Tac has been printed with an image of Bart Simpson which is sweet (pun intended).

I gave one a try and found them to have a weird but pleasant taste. They do taste like bubblegum, they are sweet and they have that almost berry like flavour, but then something else kicks in. It isn’t quite mint, more like menthol, and it adds a cooling refreshing taste to the end of the sweet. This is not unpleasant, but it is just a little unexpected with the bubblegum, as it stops the flavour being purely that. The sweets are still refreshing, which I guess is their purpose. I think these new Bart Simpson Edition Tic Tac sweets have good novelty value, an interesting taste, but I think the packaging and Simpsons theming is the best part. I will happily finish off the rest of the pack, but it won’t be something I’ll be rushing out to buy again.

Tic Tac Mixers - Coconut Pineapple (Tesco) By @cinabar

These Tic Tac Mixers in Coconut Pineapple are the latest new flavour from Tic Tac available in the UK. Recently we have been quite lucky with the newly released flavours, and these too sounded like a fantastic classic combination. They are part of the flavour change range, where the sweet is supposed to melt from one taste to another. I tried my first Tic Tac and was pleased with the initial coconut taste. They were sweet and creamy, and the coconut worked rather well. I continued to suck the sweet and a strange acidic almost menthol like flavour appeared, and it dawned on me that this was supposed to be the pineapple element. This element of the flavour didn’t work for me and I thought it tasted a bit chemical and not very fruity. To give a fair review I tried a few more, at once, and this time when the creamy coconut flavour started to change I chewed instead. This did give off a slightly more pineapple flavour, but there was still that acidic bite locked in.
In principal these Tic Tac Mixers in Coconut Pineapple should be a winner for me, as I do like those flavours. As much as the coconut was a success I was left thinking the pineapple needed more work.

Tic Tac Special Edition PopCorn Sweets (Poundland) [By @Cinabar]

This summer the Special Edition Tic Tac flavour is Popcorn! Although we have seen a few interesting flavours over the years, they do have a tendency to be fruity when it comes to Tic Tacs so this is quite a jump.
The packet is smartly wrapped too, with its red and white stripes to look like a cinema pack of popcorn, the sweets however are plain white. I only note this as the re-released banana Minions Tic Tac have cute little Minion designs on them!

The flavour of the Tic Tac is initially quite strange, not bad I hasten to add, I just had difficulty processing the taste with the idea of it being a Tic Tac. The problem I think arises from the fact that it tasted like popcorn but felt hard and was the same size and texture as an unpopped kernel. My initial reaction to it was that it felt like I’d accidentally tried to eat a hard bit of popcorn, and it took a second for me to process that this was just a sweet with the same feel and flavour. This is actually testimony to the fact the flavour is really good, it does taste a lot like sweet popcorn. They have a very good flavour, they are creamy and recreate the taste authentically.
These may not be refreshing in the way that most Tic Tac sweets taste, but they are fun and do the job well. These are nice to try and a good innovative flavour too that will undoubtedly amuse the folks at work. I’m just not sure anyone will be writing a petition to get the flavour to become a permanent addition to the range.

Tic Tac Mixers: Peach to Lemonade and Cherry to Cola (Newsagents) [By @Cinabar]

Not only are there new flavours from Tic Tac out, but they are flavour change Tic Tacs. These new sweets are called Mixers and have two flavours in one. They sound a bit magic, but the reality is probably just layering. There is a version which goes from Peach to Lemonade and another which changes from Cherry to Cola.

Tic Tac Peach to Lemonade Mixers
The colour of the sweets are a pale orange, or peach I suppose. I tried two at once in order to live life on the edge and to intensify the taste. They started with a soft fruity peach flavour. It was mellow, but almost juicy and had a nice taste. The flavour became slightly tart as the sweet went on and eventually the citrus took over, and became a sharp lemonade. It reminded me of cloudy lemonade as it was quite strong and zesty. I liked the two flavours and that the lemon part was such a fresh taste.

Tic Tac Cherry to Cola Mixers
I smiled when I tried one of these dark pink sweets. The initial flavour is cherry, but it a very specific taste, it is floral, an almond like super fruity flavour, one I associate with being morello cherry. I really loved the taste, of all the variants of cherry flavour you get in sweets, this is actually my favourite. As I was enjoying the sweet flavour a little bit of sour trickled its way in, and then quite suddenly all the sharp cola arrived at once. It was more like a fizzy sour cola bottle sweet than the drink, but I liked the taste. I thought the Cherry to Cola was a goodvaried mix of flavours.

I did like these Mixers from Tic Tac, they had a very good flavour change, that was very distinctive. I think the flavour combinations worked well, and both end on a nice refreshing sour hit. The flavour change takes a little while to kick in, ensuring the first flavour gets a decent amount of air time. Unless of course you chew! Ive always sucked my Tic Tacs but apparently others just munch right through them, I think they’d be missing out on these!

New Limited Edition Banana Tic Tac Minions (Superdrug) [By @Cinabar]

I was picking up a couple of summer essentials in Superdrug and my eye was drawn to the shelves in the queue line which were attempting to up sell me various goodies. As you can imagine this works quite often with me, and I found my hand reaching over to pick up these New Banana Tic Tacs, in their fancy Minions themed pack.
When I got to the till the cashier caught me looking at the large pack and also had a look "Weird flavour for Tic Tacs, will have to pick up a pack to try for myself" she said, but I agreed with her sentiment, it is an unusual flavour.
The Tic Tacs are bright yellow in colour and come in large packs at 49g. I poured some out and gave one a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavour. It wasn't sickly sweet and artificial as I had feared, it was well balanced and flavoursome. There was a slightly warming hint of something in the aftertaste, which was also really nice. These are very easy to eat sweets, with a good real flavour.
I think they have done the very best they can incorporating the flavour of banana into a sweet and not veered off in the direction of artificial banana foam sweets. These are a pleasant, mild and easy going. I like them for their novelty, the flavour is good and the Minions pack has a nice design, but I still favour the more refreshing flavours.

Tic Tac - Apple Burst (New UK Sweets, WH Smiths) [By @Cinabar]

As I was browsing in Smiths I spotted the new flavour of Tic Tacs on the shelf. They were in a four pack for the reasonable sum of £1. I do love the £1 offers in WH Smiths, firstly they are good value and secondly they seem to cover all the new products so are always up my street! :-)
This new flavour is called Apple Burst so is a fruity addition to the range. Inside the pack there are Tic Tacs in two new shades of green, light and dark. The light aren’t similar to the Lime ones in colour, they are aren’t quite as bright as that. There are two tones of flavours too, but to be fair they are quite similar. One of the flavours is a slightly sweet apple and the other is slightly sour version. Both are quite fresh tasting and full on, and start with a strong apple taste, one then mellows and the other leaves a slightly zingy hint.
I did quite enjoy this Tic Tacs, and will happily eat up the rest that were purchased. I say “I” but to be honest they are on my desk at work, so they will get a communal picking over from the team too! I do like Tic Tacs and it is nice to see a new flavour on the shelves, but apple doesn’t seem that different or special. Nice yes, but certainly not a flavour I’ll be panic buying if it becomes a Limited Edition. We have had some great flavours released in the past, but perhaps the British public don’t really go for them? I think the crazy days of Grape and Lychee are long gone sadly.

Tic Tac – Festival Edition (Local Newsagent) [By @cinabar]

Over the years we have reviewed quite a few limited edition Tic Tac flavours. The new ones tend to come out at late spring and usually have a summery feel to them. These particular ones came out in time for Festival season, with an appropriately themed name too.
Once I got them home and had a look at them properly I realised that they felt quite familiar. The flavours in the pack include orange, lime, cherry and passion fruit. The most commonly available Tic Tac flavour (in the UK at least) after the Mint one is their Orange and Lime edition. They have been around since I was very small and it is clear that the Orange and Lime sweets in this pack are the same as those ones. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just they aren’t very new and they are easily available elsewhere. I then gave the two other flavours in the pack a taste, and again I was filled with déjà vu. The pale orange coloured ones and the red ones are passion fruit flavour and cherry flavour, are exactly the same as the same as 2011’s Cherry Passion mix. Don’t get me wrong, they are lovely, but they have been around before. I actually think passion fruit Tic Tics are one of the most refreshing flavours available, as they do have a lovely tropical taste, so in many respects it is nice to see them back. The cherry variety are very strong and fruity and full of rich zingy morello taste, so again I liked them.
It’s just that I look forward to the new season’s Tic Tac varieties, and this year it seems to be lacking some of the innovation we have had in previous years. Last year’s Tic Tac –Strawberry Fields were perfect for summer, and before that we had flavours like Grape and Lychee Twist, and in the UK it is really hard to find good grape flavour sweets so they really were quite something.
The Tic Tacs are nice, they are summery and they do work as a combination. I just have my fingers crossed that perhaps a little later in the year they will reveal another new special flavour, with all new sweets in the pack.

Tic Tac –Strawberry Fields (Newsagents, Birmingham Snow Hill) [By @Cinabar]

As the official flavour of summer, it seems reasonable that the new variety of Tic Tacs for the season would be strawberry related. The actually flavour is Strawberry Fields, and inside the pack are two different coloured pink sweets both with a different depth of strawberry flavour, one sweet and one sour.
The pale pink drop is the sweeter of the two tastes, and tastes of sweet strawberries, it’s a very fragrant taste, and has a strong berry base. It’s almost like there are other fruits mixed in as the flavour seems quite a full taste, almost like there is a hint of raspberry too.
The darker Tic Tac has a stronger sharper taste. It is strawberry and starts quite sweet, and develops into a slightly sour flavour, a bit like strawberry with a shot of lemon mixed in to zing it up. It’s a good taste, and I felt it was a bit more refreshing that the lighter coloured one.
The key thing is that both sweets are really nice, and work even better together. The mix of flavours is really pleasant, combining the sweet with the sour.
Although strawberry may seem like an obvious choice of variety the two tones of flavour give these sweets a nice twist. These do make a nice addition to the Tic Tac range, sweet and fruity but still managing to have the nice refreshing touch which is synonymous with Tic Tacs. Definitely something I’ll be keeping to hand for a quick sweet treat over the coming months.

Tic Tac Summer Editions: Peach Passion and Grape & Lychee Twist (WH Smith) [By @Cinabar]

Tic Tac seem to be launching a few new flavours recently, and I am pleased to announce that we have two new summer flavours this year, which I think must be a record. They are wonderfully fruity sounding varieties too, and perhaps they will inspire some summer sun with their tropical sounding flavours.

Peach Passion
When I first tasted these the very first flavour to hit was a strong juicy peach taste, and then the passion fruit taste joined it and made a wonderfully mouth watering tropical flavour. These Tic Tacs were zesty and sweet, and really pleasant. I immediately wanted another one after I finished the first, which is always a good sign with sweets. They are zingy and full of flavour. Despite being rather sweet the base flavours were lovely and natural, and there really was no mistaking their intended taste. I hope the Grape & Lychee were as impressive.

Grape & Lychee Twist
I tried these sweets and the first thing that I thought was the taste of these is what I call American Grape. I eat lots of proper grapes, red ones and green ones but I have never had a physical grape that tastes they way it does in American sweets. To be fair these Tic Tacs are actually made with real powdered grape juice too, so perhaps I am just missing something on the flavour, but that aside I do actually rather like them. I think we get predominantly blackcurrant flavoured sweets in the UK and grape is one of those tastes that are left behind. The Lychee kicks in as an aftertaste and mellows the sweet down, creating a refreshing but smoother overall taste and another really enjoyable sweet.

It is really nice to see such interesting, and unusual fruits make their way into the Tic Tac line up this year. I’m also pleased to see that there was a fair amount of natural powered juices in their ingredients too, which really added to the experience. I’m really hoping for more exciting Tic Tac flavours in the future, as these super fruity ones make such a nice change from the usual range of breath mints available.

Tic Tac Cherry Passion (WH Smith) [By @SpectreUK]

First produced in 1969, Tic Tacs have been available in their flip top transparent plastic boxes ever since. Each box usually weighs around 18g and has roughly 36 Tic Tacs inside. In the past flavours have ranged from peppermint to chocolate, and cinnamon to raspberry. My favourite flavour has always been orange flavour. Boring maybe, but I like to thinks it’s traditional, as the orange flavour was always the most available when I was a youngster. These Cherry Passion Tic Tacs have been brought out recently. They have red coloured Tic Tacs for the cherry flavour and bright yellow Tic Tacs for the passionfruit flavour. The cherry Tic Tacs have a fresh cherry flavour to them that’s not overpowering or distasteful, which as a cherry flavouring hater I was pleasantly surprised by. The passionfruit has a good fruity flavouring that’s also not too strong. When added together both the Tic Tac flavours complement each other very well and I soon found myself dumping both flavours into my mouth quite happily. I was also reminded that two Tic Tacs can still wedge each other in tight when they get side by side in the transparent box. There was no way I could get my finger in the top flap, so I had to use a biro top to release them like I used to when I was a lad. Ah! The good old days…

Tic Tac [England Football] Fruity Limited Edition (Independent Newsagent)

Tic Tac are jumping on the band wagon and have released an England themed confectionary item. The pack shows the England red and white flag, and a football in support of the World Cup. Inside the pack are sweets in the England colours too, red and white, but flavoured with cherry and orange (more on this colour/flavour thing further down).

Cherry – Red coloured. This is quite a sweet cherry flavour, and although there is a distinct cherry taste, there is also an edge of ‘berries’ mixed in too. When I bit in, about half way through, there was a very pleasant sharp cherry hit that worked well. All in all, very pleasant!

Orange – White coloured. I have no idea why this bugs me, but it does, so I will mention it. They are orange sweets but they are white in colour. I realise that if Tic Tac went with the mint for the white you might get a bit of strange flavour combination with the cherry... but everyone knows orange should be orange. Otherwise I will just get all Confused. In flavour these are the same as regularly orange Tic Tacs, nice sweet and almost tasting like they have a hint of mandarin mixed in.

Of course I tried both varieties together, and that made a nice fruity combination too. I’m sure these are going to be popular over the Summer, whatever happens in the World Cup. Any new addition to the Tic Tac range has to be a good thing, but please can we have the American Cinnamon version here in the UK too!

PS Many thanks to DavidH for tipping me off about this great item!
:-)
