Vault City Brewing: Iron Brew Sour of Scotland (The Wee Beer Shop) By @SpectreUK

I have a can of Iron Brew pretty much every day. I love alcoholic Ginger Beer and also alcoholic Dandelion and Burdock. So, when Cinabar told me that there is an alcoholic Iron Brew and asked me if I wanted to try it, I jumped at the chance. What she didn't tell me was that it's a sour beer. I must have upset her or something. She just said, "So… many… times!"

I really hate sour beer. It's the only beer I don't like. Personally I can't see the point in it. I like sour sweets, in fact I love them, so it's not the sourness. I love hearty, bitter, biscuity, fruity, and or citrusy flavoursome beer. Why would anyone ruin a perfectly good combination of malted barley, wheat and oats, hops and the addition of Iron Brew to the brewing, by making it sour? Anyway, rant over and on to open this Iron Brew Sour of Scotland. On opening the can I could certainly smell Iron Brew. On pouring, this beer looked a little more orange than usual. It was not an artificial colour though, it just looked like a light amber ale.

On taste Vault City Brewing had certainly packed in plenty of Iron Brew into this 5.5% in volume sour beer. Weirdly I didn't mind it. There was Iron Brew to begin with, followed by a little bitterness from the herbal hops, then the sheer face twisty sourness tried to take over, but was suddenly cut short by a sweetness from the malted barley and a touch of wheat, and then the whole lot was flattened by a tonne or more of Iron Brew into the aftertaste. With each mouthful I started to get used to this Iron Brew Sour of Scotland. The more I drank, the more I liked it. I don't know, but they might be on to something here.
