Cookie Dough M&Ms (Morrisons) By @Cinabar

Today is a bit of a special day. Something genuinely rare has happened, I’ve found a new flavour of M&Ms.

I’ve always found the British range a bit frustrating. We get very few limited editions, while social media is full of all the wild flavours available elsewhere. So seeing something new land in a standard UK supermarket feels like a bit of a win. This time it’s Cookie Dough M&Ms. The bag is a lovely pink colour and, honestly, I couldn’t wait to get stuck in.

Opening them up, they look pretty familiar at first glance. Bright, colourful shells as expected, though they do seem slightly rounder than the usual varieties. Texture-wise, they’re a great mix. You get the crisp shell, then a layer of chocolate, and finally a soft cookie dough centre.

Flavour-wise, they lean sweet and creamy, with a hint of vanilla alongside plenty of chocolate. They’re very easy to eat, maybe a bit too easy. I definitely found myself reaching for more than I meant to.

Overall, these are a solid addition to the UK M&Ms line-up. It’s hard to imagine anyone disliking them if you’ve got a sweet tooth. A very moreish treat.

Kit Kat Cookie Dough Flavour (Tesco) By @cinabar

I’m pretty sure Kit Kat have played with cookie dough before in the Chunky range, but this time it’s turned up as a flat sharing bar. Cookie dough is everywhere right now, so this feels like Kit Kat leaning into a trend rather than reinventing the wheel, just in a different format.

Inside the wrapper are nine Kit Kat rows. Each one looks surprisingly fancy, made with marbled chocolate and finished with the Kit Kat logo on top. It’s a small thing, but it does make the bar feel a bit more special than your standard Kit Kat. The smell is sweet and chocolatey as soon as you open it.

Biting in, you get the familiar Kit Kat wafers, but with a layer of cookie dough running through the bar. The overall flavour is still very chocolatey, but there’s a buttery richness that sets it apart from a regular Kit Kat. If I’m honest, I’m not sure I would instantly clock it as cookie dough in a blind taste test, but it is definitely sweeter and richer than the classic version.

That works perfectly for me. I’ve got a proper sweet tooth and I am fully on board with this cookie dough phase we seem to be living in. It might not scream cookie dough, but it’s tasty, indulgent and very easy to keep reaching back for another piece.

Mars Cookie Dough Flavour (B&M) By @SpectreUK

As well as Hot Honey, Cookie Dough seems to be another flavour of the year for snack foods. We spotted this Mars Cookie Dough Flavour bar in a local store. The bar is soft cookie dough flavoured nougat, with creamy caramel on top covered in milk chocolate.

 

On opening the wrapper there was a milk chocolate and cookie dough aroma from the regular looking Mars Bar inside. On cutting into the bar to see the insides, it didn't look much different from the original Mars Bar.

On taste this Mars Cookie Dough Flavour did taste different than original Mars Bar. There was a cookie dough taste instead of the regular nougat, mixed with the regular sweet caramel, and milk chocolate flavours.

Overall this Mars Cookie Dough Flavour bar was a lot sweeter than the original. So, it depends if you have a sweet tooth and a desire to mix it up a little.

Spooners Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (Tesco) By @Cinabar

I went into Tesco Express with the intention of picking up some yoghurts, as we had run out. I did buy a packet of strawberry low fat yoghurts, but next to them in the fridge was this twin pack of cookie dough pots, and I just couldn’t resist. I know these are more dessert than lunchtime snack, but they still made their way into my basket.

As it was Friday, and very much a treat for getting through a truly difficult week, I thought I’d give one a try. The pack says you can eat them straight from the tub or microwave them to warm them up. When I peeled back the card, I was greeted by a dollop of cookie dough. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it did look a little sad.

I decided to try it warm. After a very brief zap in the microwave, it looked slightly melted and far more inviting. The first thing I noticed when I tried it was how lovely and soft it was, with the warmth making it super comforting. The cookie dough itself is very sweet and definitely a proper treat, with a rich, buttery flavour. There was plenty of chocolate too, which melted nicely into the dough.

I loved every mouthful. The portion size felt just right, as any more might have tipped into sickly territory, but this hit my sweet tooth perfectly and absolutely delivered.

Nescafe Vanilla Cookie Dough Latte (Morrisons) By @Cinabar

Another grocery trip brings with it another exciting variety of coffee. This has been a fantastic year for new flavoured instant coffees, and I’m not complaining. I've had the pleasure of trying all sorts of interesting flavours, and the Nescafe Vanilla Cookie Dough Latte is my latest find.

As usual with these sachets, I followed the instructions meticulously. One part of the process still puzzles me: after stirring, waiting twenty seconds, stirring again, you are supposed to tap the mug. I always do this because the instructions say so, but I can’t quite understand how this step contributes to making the drink creamier. It says it does, bu tI don’t get it.

Nevertheless, once prepared, and after all the instructions were followed I gave it a try. The drink was sweet, but not overly so, and it had a creamy texture. There was a delightful vanilla tone throughout, which complemented the coffee beautifully. Although I couldn’t distinctly identify the cookie dough flavour part, it was undoubtedly a good flavour and made for a lovely afternoon pick me up. The creaminess and sweetness of the drink were well-balanced, making it a satisfying and enjoyable drink.

Munchies Cookie Dough Ice Cream (Sainsburys) By @Cinabar

This year I can see that the trend is going to be ice cream flavours. Last week, Spectre wrote about Raspberry Ripple Milkybar buttons, and here we have the Munchies Cookie Dough Ice Cream Edition. Of course, both products are made by Nestle, but I’m still loving the idea of these retro flavours.

The Munchies are the usual milk chocolate square shapes and still have the biscuit inside, but surrounding this is a cookie dough flavour filling. I gave one a try, and the first thing to note is that the texture is all there; that is what Munchies are known for, that soft chocolate and crunchy biscuit that those of us who love texture so much.

The cookie dough element is creamy and sweet, and tastes nicely of vanilla and sweet caramel. I’m not sure I would have been able to guess it was cookie dough in a blind tasting, but it was creamy, sweet, and the right sort of flavour, and they are very moreish. I only meant to have a couple to try, and well, now I don’t have any left for later. 

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites (Petrol Station) By @Cinabar

When we buy petrol, we buy treats from the petrol station, which helps sooth the cost of the fuel. The good thing about our local petrol station is that it stocks the most excellent selection of import goodies local to us. I don’t know who the buyer is, but they have my kind of taste. Today we picked up this box of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites, which originated in the USA.

Inside the box are small, mixed-shaped pieces of cookie dough coated in milk chocolate. They are small but perfect to snack on while watching TV. The flavour is sweet, but the cookie dough has a nice creamy flavour with a hint of something a little tangy, perhaps salt. The milk chocolate is sweet and creamy and brings the whole thing together. The texture is soft but firm. 

These are moreish chocolates, and they are really nice and a bit different from what we normally get in the UK. I look forward to the next time we need to top up the petrol tank in order to find another treat. 

KitKat Chunky - Cookies Dough (@NLi10)

 I'd not seen these before but I wanted a little treat, and I decided to give it a go.  Basically an Oreo's KitKat!  Nestle do seem to use the Chunky range to give the UK the flavours.

Straight out of the fridge due to the heat - and it looks like it survived it's trip in tact.

It's a little hard to see all the layers, but it's indeed a cookie dough style paste on top of the usual wafers.

And it's decent - it's not a strong flavour so I doubt it's going to cause many people to declare it their favourite.  It's more similar to the Hershey style than the Oreo style too, but it does work with the milk chocolate.  I'd be happy to keep eating after the three chunks, these don't seem as filling as when they first appeared, but as a little afternoon snack on a hot day it was very welcome.

Kit Kat Senses - Choc Chip Cookie Dough (Asda) By @Cinabar

My last Asda order brought with it a decent selection of items to write about for Foodstuff Finds. While many people were stock piling toilet roll I filled my virtual basket with snacks, I think I focused on the right area to be honest. :-D Incredibly the order brought with it three new flavours of Kit Kat which was exciting, the first I went for were these Kit Kat Senses with Choc Chip Cookie Dough. They are packaged in a box, inside which are traditional style two finger foil and paper wrapped Kit Kats, but in a protective plastic bag. I liked the retro packaging.

The Kit Kat Senses with Choc Chip Cookie Dough is a milk chocolate Kit Kat with the usual wafers but also a layer of cookie dough inside. The flavour worked remarkably well, the layer of filling was quite generous and was lovely and sweet. I liked the mix of textures with the chocolate and wafers too, always the best part of a Kit Kat. The flavour is nice, it adds a little vanilla and that nice creaminess you get with cookie dough. I was impressed with these Kit Kats and can’t wait to tuck into the other boxes, I might try and limit myself to one pack a week. It just goes to show if you do manage to get an online order it is still worth checking out the new products section, if you are after a little treat while isolating.

Ben and Jerry’s Cookie Dough ‘Wich (Ocado) By @Cinabar

Wow its hot, the sun is shining and even the heat at night isn’t something I am at all used to. So I decided to have a root around in the freezer and see if I could find any interesting ice creams stacked away. I spotted a box of these Ben and Jerry’s Cookie Dough ‘Wich, they are basically a sandwich of biscuits filled with a cookie dough ice cream filling, and they sounded perfect for this evening.
I opened up the box and found that there were three inside in light blue packets, and they seemed quite chunky. I opened up one of them and found that the swirl on the biscuit in the image wasn’t as smooth as the picture on the box, but otherwise they looked a decent size.
I gave one the taste test and found the biscuit sides a bit disappointing. They were soft, but not in the way that American style cookies are soft and gooey, it was chewy, but I found I didn’t like the texture. The coldness made them feel odd to me. The ice cream in the middle was lovely though, it was creamy, and sweet and had a good biscuit flavour. The biscuit sides were a good way to hold the ice cream, but in my heart of hearts I would rather have had the ice cream in a pot with a wooden spoon! Oh well, it did cool me down in the heat, and it isn’t going to be too tough a chore to finish the others, its just not something I’d buy again. I would happily buy a tub of Ben and Jerry’s Cookie Dough ice cream though!

New Kit Kat Chunky - Cookie Dough (Londis) By @Cinabar

Kit Kat aren’t known for their adventure of new flavours in the UK market, have released this Kit Kat Cookie Dough Chunky. I was quite excited, looking everywhere for some sort of their usual caramel filling, but i could find none, this was all new!
The bar has the usual thick chocolate of the Kit Kat Chunky, the wafers and a layer of cookie dough style filling. It is a cream colour, and is quite thick inside the bar.

I gave the bar a bite and if I’m totally honest, couldn’t distinguish it from a regular Kit Kat Chunky. There was a vague hint of extra vanilla, a slight hint of extra sweetness, but gosh this was an anti-climax. If you like regular Kit Kat Chunky bars, you’l like this, i just doesn’t deviate much from those flavours.
There was potential here, but the Cookie Dough just doesn’t add much to the formula.
I guess Kit Kat are still playing it rather safe with this Cookie Dough edition, the differences in over all flavour between this and the original bar and minor unfortunately. At least a new caramel edition would have had some, well, caramel flavour. I can’t imagine a world where we get the Japanese edition Kit Kats mainstream here in the UK (think Wasabi Kit Kat, Sweet Potato Kit Kat etc) but I wouldn’t mind a hint of adventure - even if its just a new fruity flavour… but I look forward to the next safe edition, probably “wafer” flavour or some such.

Ben and Jerry's Core: Dough-ble Whammy (Sainsbury's) [By @Cinabar]

The weather is warming up and the new ice creams are appearing in the shops! This new one from Ben and Jerrys is part of the new Core range where there is a special centre in the middle off the ice cream. Dough-ble Whammy is a cookie dough, fudge and chocolate ice cream mix, perfect for a sweet tooth! The cookie dough element feels very American to me. I love cookies, and loved making them when I was a kid but never entertained the idea of eating the unused dough. Perhaps that’s the era I grew up in though, where raw eggs were seen as dangerous and so eating cookie dough was just never considered.
I realise that cookie dough is gaining in popularity as a flavour in its own right, and eggs are much safer now. I have heard of even sweets and chocolate being filled with cookie dough, so this new ice cream is a nice progression. You can see from the top of the tub the split which looks very smart, and means that there is going to be a nice jumble of flavours from the first scoop.
As ever with Ben and Jerrys I left the tub out for a little while before serving, it isn’t soft scoop and isn’t easy to get out of the tub if you try straight from the freezer, but it is worth waiting for! Once I got it into bowls I could see the three distinct sections. The white ice cream was super creamy, and the pieces of cookie dough added a biscuit taste whilst still remaining pleasantly soft. The chocolate ice cream was spot, loads of cocoa taste, sweet and the adding chocolate bits mixed in gave this a good full flavour. The only section I wasn’t that fussed by was the fudge core. The chocolate strength of it was so strong, it was just a bit overpowering. If you mixed a little with one of the other ice creams that flavour worked well together, but on its own the core was a tad darker than I would have liked. It reminded me of drinking chocolate milkshake syrup before its diluted (who hasn’t done that)!
All in all we enjoyed the tub, and the two main ice creams inside were top notch. I just found it a bit of a shame that the new ‘core’ aspect of it was the part that let it down a little.

Frijj [The Simpson’s Limited Edition] Cookie Dough Flavour Milkshake (Sainsbury’s)

Frijj do tend to make rather yummy thick milkshakes, and so when I saw this new variety I hurriedly purchased some. Cookie Dough is an interesting idea for a milkshake and not a flavour I had seen before. Generally I think my favourite flavour of milkshake is probably vanilla, so I had high hopes for this product.
I’m not sure how Cookie Dough is really supposed to taste, but when I opened the bottle the first thing I noticed was a strong smell of caramel. In taste too caramel seems to be the major flavour, and I don’t think a label of ‘caramel milkshake’ would be too far from the mark. The funny thing with this shake is that despite thoroughly enjoying it at first, further in I found it a little sickly and a struggle to finish. I put this down to the flavour perhaps being caramel and something else that I wasn’t so keen on. I can’t quite put my finger on what the other flavour is but one of the people tasting it with me thought egg, but not in a sulphur way. I suspect egg would be fair enough given it is supposed to be Cookie Dough, but I wasn’t keen. I found that the extra flavour creates an after taste that appears subtle at first but by the end was too distracting and a little rich.
