Naty Vanilla Wafers - tiny Romanian wafer cubes [@Nli10]

 Not an exciting review really - but a new-to-me brand of a traditional British favourite - the pink wafer.

Here you get a big bag of little vanilla wafers, but not pink

And they come all the way from Romania!

I picked these up for my 98 year old nanna, little sweet temptations that will happily sit in the bag until needed.  Ironically she preferred (and kept!) the bag of plain poppadoms that I bought for us - but she did sneak a few of these with her tea.

Easily as good as the British traditional version, so I might have to try a few of the exotic flavours next time I'm on the highstreet.

Snickers Wafer Rolls (B&M) By @Cinabar

I picked these up in B&M and they look to be an import, although all the packaging is in English. Inside the pack you get two wafer rolls, which immediately makes them feel more like a lighter snack than a full on chocolate bar.

The wafer itself is lovely and crisp, and I really enjoyed the mix of textures. The chocolate coating is smooth and does its job well, with little caramel crystals on top adding extra sweetness and a bit of stickiness. The filling is a chocolate peanut flavour, but it leans much more towards sweet than nutty.

The peanut flavour is very mild, with no crunch from nuts and none of that bold peanut hit you normally expect from a Snickers. Because of that, it does not quite live up to the name, but taken on its own terms it is still an enjoyable chocolatey wafer snack.

These are good if you want something sweet that feels a bit lighter and less filling than a standard Snickers. Not one for peanut lovers, but still nice enough for a quick chocolate fix when you do not want anything too heavy.

McVities Gold Billions Wafer BUT Hazelnut [@NLi10]

 We looked at the McVities Gold bar the other week - and I realised the box contained two different flavours!  Here we have the same bar - but with non-brand hazelnut spread in it.

Looks exciting - lets try it!

And this looks a lot more dark than the other bar.

I'd say that I couldn't really tell a remembered flavour from the other version, but I could see the wafers and hazelnut so I know that if I ate them side by side there would be something.

I think the caramel flavours are the strongest though so I think there are better nutty wafers, but this is an easy pick-up for fans of the original.

Loacker Chocolaterie Milk Chocolate Wafer Bars (Ocado) By @Cinabar

I love wafer biscuits. It is the texture for me. Not everyone likes wafer, but I am a fan. In fact, I often pick up a square bar of Loacker wafers in coffee shops, as they tend to put them by the till and lure you in while you wait for them to make your drink. I have not really bought them for home before, but that changed when I spotted this was newly listed on Ocado—Loacker Chocolaterie Milk Chocolate Wafer Bars. I added some to my latest order.

Once they arrived, I checked the ingredients and saw that they contained hazelnuts, which is very common for Loacker, but they also contained peanut butter, which is a bit more unusual for the brand. As always with allergies, make sure you check the ingredients on the box before eating, as they do change things from time to time.

I opened the box, and inside were four wrapped oblong bars. The bars were small and thin, but at only 91 calories, they are a light snack.

I gave one a try and really loved the flavour. There was the lovely thick milk chocolate and a rich hazelnut taste. This worked well and was a good combination. The wafer was there too, giving it that crispy but light texture. All of this was good. The only issue is that they were not as substantial as the big wafers you get in coffee shops. All the flavours and the texture were there, but it was gone in a few bites, and I would have liked the bars to be a little bigger.

Amicelli Hazelnut Wafer Tubes - Aldi [@NLi10]

 I received a Christmas box of goodies - that I'm only just fully exploring.  One of these is this giant box of Milky-Way Crispy Rolls!

Ok - so not Milky Way, these are Amicelli which sounds like pasta - but is actually Ritter's version of the lovely choc coated wafer roll.  And the middle is closer to a dark hazelnut spread than Nutella and no where near as light as the Milky Way

I am reliably informed these came from Aldi - and are 'perfect for gifting'

And neatly arranged too - 16 in a box is really 8 portions

They do look like feminine hygiene products though

But are lovely and chocolaty inside

With crispy layers and a hazelnut centre - like a lovely grown-up version of one of my favourite childhood treats.  Will have to see how long these last!

Sondey Milk & Hazelnut Wafer Sandwich (imitation Knoppers!) [@NLi10]

 

Hey - this looks familiar! I love the Knoppers bars, always have done since the 90s. Lidl have a whole dozen of these for £2.30 and that’s pretty cheap - let’s see how they shape up.

That’s a chunk of snacks.

That’s a decent slab of chocolate too.

So this has lots of lovely layers, wafer, hazelnut spread, crunchy bits and goodness.

But is it a Knoppers? No. It’s closer than I thought though. The general satisfaction level of eating one of these is about that of eating half a Knoppers, but if you ate two it’d be far too dry. This said, at the price they are selling these for it can be a regular snack instead of a rare treat.

I’m all for more Eurosnacks appearing on our shelves - it’s a lot cheaper than hopping on a train. Let’s see what else appears!

Mr Beast Crunch vs a classic Time Out bar [@NLi10]

 I had a hunt for exciting advent calendars this year - but I just didn’t see any! I know I have a few as presents that will appear this week - but instead I just bought some chocolate.

I hadn’t seen this Mr Beast bar - it’s the rice crispy one, and this is a classic Kwik Save chocolate treat - the Time Out bar.

Grass fed milk - like that’s unusual. Americans are odd.

The backs tell a familiar story.

One is focused on being the cool treat of choice - the other is a familiar friend,

And both being a chocolate with stuff mix they are fairly similar calories 

While Jimmy’s bar is a huge step up from most American chocolate, it still looks a little artificial next to the glory of the Time Out.

The wafer bar is actually pretty similar to how I remember it.  I used to get a pack of five from Kwik Save for a pound (maybe even 89p) while I was at uni and they’d last me all week. Here it’s 50p for one and it it’s a nice two bite snack. Just chocolaty enough to balance the wafers, it’s a delight.

The Mr beast offering has far more choc by percentage but has a similar taste and mouthfeel which isn’t surprising, but this kind of works in its favour.  For the price though you’d kind of expect more - think these are £2.50 still.

I’ll,only get more feastables if they do more interesting chocolate flavours like white and dark, otherwise I’ll stick to the Twix I’d have had if I’d not been in the interesting import shop.

Oreo Wafer Roll (Local Shop) By @cinabar

There is a little shop next to a petrol station where we live that sells some really interesting foods. They have a wonderful import selection, and that is where I found this packet of Oreo Wafer Rolls. I was trying to work out where they were from, and Google Translate seems to think Spanish, but the back of the packet also mentions Vietnam, so I’m just not sure.

 

Inside the box are just three packs of biscuits in total, which seemed a bit mean; they could easily have fit in four. Each sealed pack has three wafer biscuit sticks.

The biscuits are pretty and twirled in pattern; they remind me of some wafer biscuits my mum used to get to decorate ice cream sundaes. I gave one a try, and they were very much Oreo in flavour. The texture is light and crispy, and I felt like if these were filled with Oreo stuff filling I would be living the dream. They are hollow, despite the picture on the box, and this makes the texture crispy. Even without it, they were fun to eat, sweet and tasty, with lovely Oreo flavours running through. I ate my pack of Oreo Wafer Rolls straight, but perhaps I’ll save another pack for ice cream.

Cadbury’s Timeout Roundie Biscuits (Ocado) By @Cinabar

Firstly, we have new biscuits from Cadbury, which is great news. They are based on the TimeOut bar and made with wafers. When I was taking the picture above, I realised that there were only five biscuits in the pack, which is a bit disappointing. I found myself wondering how they were packaged in three stacks, with just one in the middle. Once opened, I found they were a bit nicer on the layout, but talk about spaced out with plastic. I stacked all five of the biscuits and put the plastic container they were in behind them to show the issue. I’m not a fan of only having five biscuits, and I don’t like the spacing out.

Still, it was time to try a biscuit and focus on the taste. Here is where the biscuits shined; there were lots of lovely layers of wafer, tonnes of flakey chocolate, and texture, and they were absolutely lovely to eat. They ticked the boxes for me with the crispy texture and so much chocolate, perfect with a coffee as an afternoon treat. I just wish there had been more in the pack. 

Lindt Choco Wafer (Tesco) by @cinabar

New product alert! And from one of my favourite chocolatiers too. Lindt has always been about a little extra luxury with their products, and here we have their new Choco Wafers. They come in a very nice box and would be a perfect gift or stocking filler, and they're not a bad price either at £6. Lindt can be on the pricey side.

 

Inside the box are ten individually wrapped wafer chocolates. There are three flavours: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and milk chocolate hazelnut, all in colour-coordinated wrappers. I opened up the hazelnut one fist because I am nuts about them. Chocolate and nuts are always my first choice. 

The wafers are a decent size, and this one looked appealing as it was sprinkled with hazelnuts on top. I have to admit that I was rather impressed by these, they are quite substantial, they have the smoothest chocolate, and the wafers are spot on in texture. They are crispy but firm. The nuts on top added a lovely bit of texture, and they were a complete luxury. I would be over the moon to receive these Lindt Choco Wafers as a gift, but in the meantime, I’m rather pleased I treated myself to a box!

Ferrero Collection Mini Eggs - Crispy Eggs (Tesco) By @Cinabar

I love nuts and chocolate together, so you probably won’t be surprised about my love of Ferrero Roche chocolates. I love getting Ferrero Roche at Christmas time as a nice treat, and they are good to share too. Having finished the last of my seasonal supplies, I was quite pleased to see these Ferrero Collection Mini Crispy Eggs in the supermarket, this time as an Easter product. My other favourite thing with snacks is texture. I love layers of texture because I think it makes food more interesting to eat. The little eggs promised that they were crispy, so I was really looking forward to giving them a try.

 

I prised one apart (which is impressive in itself) and think I was a little disappointed that these mini eggs didn’t have a hazelnut inside. There was room, and it feels traditional with Ferrero chocolates, but none the less, I could see the filling and the wafer.

I gave one of the crispy eggs a try, and it was still amazing. It is sweet, with loads of creamy milk chocolate, and the gorgeous hazelnut shines through. The wafer was magic too; it was perfectly crispy, and I enjoyed the texture ever so much. Yes, I still think they could have put a nut in there, but even without these, they are a gorgeous treat. Definitely one I’ll be picking up again. 

Cadbury White Chocolate Roundie (Asda) By @SpectreUK

These new Cadbury Roundie white chocolate wafer rounds are already driving my autocorrect wild! I'm not sure about the name either; 'Roundie' or plural 'Roundies'? After a discussion with Cinabar (which also upsets my autocorrect) we figured 'cart wheels' wouldn't work, and besides we all know the other name for those was already taken for something else chocolatey quite some time ago!

I do love white chocolate. Cadbury recently brought back their white chocolate and it's one of my favourites. I have to admit I'm not all that keen on wafer though. I'm more of a biscuit person per se, although these Roundies are called biscuits, and I suppose wafers are biscuits too! However I don't mind 'having the odd break' now and then, if you know what I mean? So these new Cadbury Roundies may fill an unknown gap of white chocolate and wafer I didn't know existed. We shall see…

As you can see from the photograph these new Cadbury Roundies are individually wrapped. This is a great thing indeed. They are 160 calories per Roundie (gosh, my poor autocorrect), so I figured before opening the packet that I'd have to share them out with someone else. Being perpetually greedy and calorie counting at the same time is quite a trial. Now I can have one or two of these Roundies as and when I fancy them, rather than the usual grumpy and begrudging; "do you want one or two of these?"

The next photograph shows that there are three layers of wafer coated in white chocolate with milk chocolate in-between the wafers. On first taste I have to admit I thought that there was too much wafer here. There was an initial creaminess from the white chocolate followed by a whole lot of wafer, and a little milk chocolate followed again by more creaminess from the white chocolate. The overall taste sensation from this combination of chocolates and wafer is very good. It's creamy, wafer, milk chocolatey and creamy again.

I figure that a Roundie would go rather well with my white chocolate hot chocolate drink on the evening, or with a vanilla ice-cream dessert, or perhaps even with another Roundie. I'd certainly buy another packet or more of these Cadbury Roundies, as they'll make a good addition to my range of white chocolatey puddings.

Show Us Yer Knoppers! - Peanut & Hazelnut Snack Bars (@NLi10)

I know I've featured the Knoppers bar before.  Initially hilarious, then intriguingly moorish - then a staple of the snack pile.  They recently started basically making a Snickers with the same stuff(which I first got in Germany) - so naturally we are talking about that now too!

This one has peanuts though - which makes it much more like a really light Snickers.

It really isn't big enough to share - but we did anyway.  I enjoyed it - but it's a very different mix to the real thing.

I also got the version I tried in Germany again

The size is more apparent here.

And is basically a light, Nuttella Snickers.  Still enjoyable. Still a little snack not a big one.

Belgian Milk Chocolate Wafer Bites (M&S) By @Cinabar

There is a product that comes and goes in the UK called Kit Kat Pop Choc, essentially they are squares of Kit Kat completely coated in milk chocolate and sold in grab bags. I’ve seen them come and go several times over the years, with even a yoghurt version at one stage. I haven’t seen them for a while but as a fan of wafer these new Marks and Spencer Belgian Milk Chocolate Wafer Bites looked like they would be worth a try in their place.
As these are an M&S product the coating over the square of wafer is Belgian milk chocolate, to make them posh of course. There were quite a few in the bag and I gave one of the cubes of chocolate wafer bites a try. The first thing to note is that there is a lovely thick coating of sweet milk chocolate that was very lush. It is a rich thick melt chocolate and when you then hit the crispy wafer the texture is pleasant and thy are enjoyable to eat. These are nice chocolates to share, especially while watching a film, between the good quality chocolate coating and the texture they are fun and easy to eat. If you are a fan of Europe’s Kit Kat Pop Chocs and you can’t get them at the minute these new Marks and Spencer Belgian Milk Chocolate Wafer Bites look like something that will happily fill the gap until their next launch. Buy a couple of bags though, our didn’t last very long!

Galaxy Chocolate Creme Wafer Curls (Sainsburys) By @Cinabar

The latest addition to the grab bag market are some new chocolates from Galaxy, called Chocolate Creme Wafer Curls. I can’t remember seeing any Galaxy chocolate products in this format before, and I was pleased to see that this is a whole new product too, not just something repackaged.
Galaxy Chocolate Creme Wafer Curls consist of a twist of wafer, dipped in Galaxy milk chocolate and filled with a smooth chocolate filling. There are some filled with hazelnut creme also available, and I will be looking to pick these up too.

There are quite a few Galaxy Chocolate Creme Wafer Curls in the bag and the coating of chocolate on them looked quite thick. I tried one and loved the mix of textures, they are light and crispy, and very easy to munch on. The smoothness of the Galaxy chocolate shines through, and these are sweet and very creamy. The filling adds an extra hit of chocolate, and each one of these are divine. Galaxy chocolate is so smooth, these are a lovely burst of rich chocolate flavours. As someone who loves interesting texture I found myself enjoying the wafer crunch and how it melts down to nothing. The biggest problem with these chocolate is the idea you are supposed to share them, they are so easy to eat I was just watching the bag disappear. Sweet, creamy, crispy, chocolatey goodness.
