Gu Mixology Strawberry Daiquiri (Asda) By @Cinabar

We love Gu for their at home luxury desserts, and I think I may have found a new summer flavour. The weather has been quite nice today (excusing the occasional rain shower), there has been a fairly blue sky, and perhaps spring is on the way. Strawberries mean summer, right?

We decided to try out one of the new Gu Mixology desserts, which are based on cocktails. This one is Gu Mixology Strawberry Daiquiri, and is a cheesecake with strawberries, rum, and lime on a red biscuit base. The desserts may have been tilted at some point, as the strawberry layer on top did seem to have slid a little. Thankfully, it won’t affect the taste.

I gave it a try and could see all the lovely layers once the spoon dug in. The top layer is like a sweet strawberry jam, but there is a warming flavour of rum throughout. The cheesecake layer is creamy and tasty, and the cooking biscuit crumble was good but couldn’t have been a little crunchier. The taste does develop as you eat, and you can pick up on lime mixed in too. It does feel very summery as a pudding, but it is also absolutely yummy. I’ll enjoy the first days of spring with these and try out the other flavours too.

PRIME on Paignton Pier (and Chips!) by @NLi10

 Turns out PRIME is a big enough deal to now be a prize in the grabber machines on Paignton Pier! 

At only 10p a play these claws aren't staying shut very often.

4500 tickets gets you a bottle - the other things in that price range are basically £5 prizes. That's a markup!!

Weathered Hulk is not impressed - how about we spend that £5 elsewhere on the Pier?

Not a huge pier but a lovely break after our day at the zoo.

Milkybar Gold (Ocado) By @SpectreUK

When I was a kid my favourite chocolate was Nestle Milkybar. I still love it and have it in all the time, so I can enjoy it with vanilla ice cream or a hot white chocolate drink. I've eaten plenty of white chocolate from different brands, but nothing has quite matches Nestle Milkybar for me. Although, I have to say that Cadbury's White Chocolate Creme Egg is ridiculously good. Anyway, I reckon I have something here that might match or surpass it, the Nestle Milkybar Gold. I do love caramel, so a caramel flavoured white chocolate Milkybar sounds like a dream come true. Most amusingly, it states "sharing bar" on the front of the wrapper - hah. That's a good one.

On peeling back the wrapper I felt a little like Charlie and his golden ticket. Cinabar had warned me that this was the only Milkybar Gold in the house, so I was hiding in a cupboard whilst I was eating it. On first sight (in the dark) this bar was still white in colour, which I was a little surprised at, I expected it to be golden and shining through the crack in the cupboard. Oh, but the sweet smell. It smelt like white chocolate and vanilla fudge, and it tasted pretty much the way it smelt. Heaven in a chocolate bar can't quite describe it. First the fudge caramel sweetness, followed by the creamy white chocolate to finish. I have got to get some more of these, and they won't be for sharing either.

Cadbury Delights - Salted Caramel (Morrisons) By @Cinabar

Cadbury has launched new multipack boxes of chocolate bars that have lower calories. I didn’t see them in January, but I do wonder if they were brought out for the people who diet post-Christmas. I’ve only seen them this month, but I thought I would get a box to try and see what these new Cadbury Delights are like. One of the flavours that have been launched is "salted caramel," because, well, of course it is. If in doubt, bring out the caramel.

 

I opened up the box and found five bars inside in shiny wrappers, the bars are quite thin (as in height) when they are out of the pack. They did hit the spot, despite being quite small. 

The nougat is soft, and it has an element that makes your teeth sticky. There are some rice crispy pieces mixed in, which do add to the texture, which was nice, and the caramel is also soft and sticky. There wasn’t much salt, but the flavours mixed nicely with the chocolate coating. I think these bars are lovely as a lower-calorie treat, they come in at 91 calories each, which is pretty decent. They are smaller, but if you are looking for something sweet in the afternoon with a coffee, they make a lovely lighter snack. Cadbury Delights have also launched in hazelnut and orange varieties, and I will pick up some boxes of those too.

Cheese & Black Pepper Hot Cross Buns (Asda) By @cinabar

I was struggling with lemon hot cross buns as not being quite traditional enough for me, so as you can imagine, the discovery of Cheese & Black Pepper Hot Cross Buns did make me pull a face. I love hot cross buns, but for me, it is about juicy currants and spices like cinnamon. They are, at the very least, a sweet treat. I have to admit that I enjoyed the lemon version I tried, but I think this may be a step too far. Savoury hot cross buns, what do you even do with them?

Inside the bag are four buns, and once split in half, you could see all the cheese mixed in there. It did look plentiful. We had these Cheese & Black Pepper Hot Cross Buns as a sandwich with a slice of roast beef inside. These flavours worked really well together, the cheese and the pepper were both nice. The mild cheese is lifted by the spice, but none of the flavours are too strong. The buns were fluffy, and they made a fab sandwich. I thoroughly enjoyed the cheese and pepper flavours, they were well balanced and nice and tasty. As a bread roll alternative, these Cheese & Black Pepper Hot Cross Buns are a winner. They just don’t feel like an Easter treat, but they were a nice lunch.
