Maltesers Mini Reindeers - Gingerbread Flavour (Morrisons) By @Cinabar

Maltesers Mini Reindeers - Gingerbread Flavour

Well, today marks the first Christmas-related product review of 2025. It is only just September, and I really think festive items should wait until after Halloween. For the record, there weren’t any Halloween products in our Morrisons, but the Christmas stock is already creeping onto the shelves.

Maltesers Mini Reindeers - Gingerbread Flavour

This bag of Gingerbread Maltesers Mini Reindeers contains individually wrapped chocolates, which makes them perfect for lunch boxes or as a little treat with an afternoon coffee, without feeling the need to eat the whole bag in one go.

Maltesers Mini Reindeers - Gingerbread Flavour

I unwrapped the first one and it looked pretty cute, moulded into a reindeer shape. Inside, the filling is a mix of gingerbread cream and little malt balls for that classic Maltesers crunch. The combination gives a nice texture, with both a soft centre and a subtle crunch. Flavour-wise, these are well balanced. The malt still comes through nicely, while the sweet, gentle ginger spice adds a festive twist without being overpowering. It might feel a bit early for Christmas treats, but these are tasty, and I’ll probably finish the bag well before the week is out.

White Maltesers (Morrisons) By @SpectreUK

White Maltesers

I do love Maltesers. When I get started on a bag of Maltesers, I generally finish the lot very quickly. I like them with ice cream too. These new White Maltesers should be a nice treat with my bowl of Raspberry Ripple after my curry tonight.

White Maltesers

These White Maltesers are white chocolate coating a malt and honeycomb centre. They sound delicious. On opening the packet, it was full of little white balls of chocolate. On first taste, there was a decent crunch, with a malt and honeycomb flavour mixed with the creaminess of the white chocolate coating. Oh my, these little white balls are like snowdrops from heaven.

Information on the packet; The 74g bag contained 501 calories per 100g, with 23g of fat, 57g of sugar, and 0.35g of salt

Maltesers Mini Bunnies Round-up White & Popcorn [@NLi10]

It's actually almost Easter so all the topical chocolates that have been around for seemingly most of the year are now actually in fashion - and more importantly in Tesco on special offer too.

Each individual flavour contains 5 separately wrapped bun buns - with internationally coded bags - this means they are about 25p each

Seeing as two bunnies is basically a portion so I had one of each flavour.

And they do look like they should - unlike the Reeces festive blobs of nothingness

These have more of a core than the Malteser bites and so the flavour explosion of the malty bits still happens.  The white is a nice change - but not as good as the classic choc.

The popcorn is just the normal choc, with a lovely buttery aftertaste and tiny hint of the popcorn itself.  Extra textures are always fun so I suspect these will get finished first.

Popcorn Flavour Maltesers Bunny (Sainsbury’s) By @Cinabar

Popcorn Flavour Maltesers Bunny

Maltesers Bunny chocolates have become a familiar sight over the years, much like the Cadbury Creme Egg. I’ve always enjoyed them as a smaller treat, perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up. This year, alongside the regular Maltesers Bunny, we have a new twist: the Popcorn Flavour Maltesers Bunny, which sounded intriguing.

Upon opening the packet, the Bunny looks identical to the regular version, with no obvious hints of its unique flavour, aside from a subtle aroma. Breaking off a piece, the popcorn scent became a little more noticeable.

Popcorn Flavour Maltesers Bunny

Taste-wise, I found the Popcorn Flavour Maltesers Bunny rather delightful. The thick, creamy chocolate shell was just as satisfying as always, and the filling retained the classic malty taste. The popcorn flavour complemented it surprisingly well, adding an almost nutty note that I really enjoyed.

However, there’s a twist, small bits within the filling attempt to replicate the sensation of eating popcorn, hopefully without it getting stuck in your teeth! While I’m not sure I needed that level of authenticity, the overall experience was still lovely.

These are definitely worth a try for anyone who loves a playful twist on a classic chocolate treat.

Maltesers Mint Mini Reindeer (Tesco) By @Cinabar

Maltesers Mint Mini Reindeer

The weather does seem to have gotten a bit cooler this week, not to mention the impressive fog that was so murky last night. I’m using this to justify, very loosely, that it now okay to break open the Christmas snacks. I've been on a hot chocolate kick for weeks, but these were waiting on the side table for an evening when I needed a sugary seasonal treat.Just to confirm, we have not put the tree up yet but will be doing so soon.

Maltesers Mint Mini Reindeer

Here we have Maltesers Mint Mini Reindeer, which do look very Christmassy. The chocolates are individually wrapped, and shaped like reindeer, sort of. Each chocolate contains minty milk chocolate and malt balls. They're not too tough and break easily.

I gave one a try, and the chocolate was sweet; mint was the predominant flavour, followed by the mellow tones of malt. I always thought malt and mint shouldn’t go together, but I do like them. Generally, I like anything with mint, and these had that lovely cooling taste of peppermint. So I hope it isn’t too early for the seasonal treats, but I’m looking forward to seeing what else I can find.

Maltesers Dark 65% (Asda) By @Cinabar

Maltesers Dark 65%

Today has been another sad and sombre day here in the UK, following the sad news of the passing of the queen yesterday. Watching King Charles' speech this evening did bring a tear to the eye, you don’t have to be the biggest royalist to understand the pain of a man losing his mom.

I opened up this bag of Maltesers Dark this evening, while catching up on the latest news from the events. The first thing I noted was that they were very dark in colour, much more so than I had expected. The flavour is of very dark chocolate too. The flavour of the crunchy malt filling does bring sweetness, but this is still about the dark chocolate. They have 35% less sugar too. I liked them, I thought they worked well. They didn’t make the news any happier, but I guess that wasn’t in their remit.

Mint Maltesers Cake Bars (Tesco) By @Cinabar

Mint Maltesers Cake Bars

I spotted these Mint Maltesers Cake Bars in Tesco, and thought I’d pick them up. I was intrigued by the flavour combination, with both malt and mint. They are in smart green packaging and looked cooling for this weather. Inside the pack are five bars, and they looked perfect for my afternoon sweet tooth craving.

Mint Maltesers Cake Bars

Under the chocolate is a malt flavoured creme and it has mint crystals running through it. The sponge is also mint flavoured. I gave it a try and the first thing was the textures. The sugar crystals do add a pleasing crunch and super hit of mint. There is more mint in there too and these cake bars really are a proper chocolate mint affair. The only problem was that I couldn’t spot the malt. I mean, maybe there was a little in the background but the whole thing screamed chocolate mint, so much so the malt's voice was lost.

The product is made by Maltesers, so it was odd that the malt is so very mild that they didn’t seem particularly on brand. However, there is a lot of mint in this, and I love mint. I stored these in the fridge and they were super refreshing with an iced latte. A nice cooling treat, they just could have done with turning up the malt.

Maltesers - Popcorn Flavour (GB Gifts) By @Cinabar

Maltesers - Popcorn Flavour

I’m honestly not sure how I feel about having flavoured varieties of Maltesers. The malty goodness inside is already spot on and the idea of adding a blast of some strong taste seems counterintuitive. This new Maltesers Popcorn Flavour is a limited edition in Australia and I have to admit did sound like it might work, the flavour sounds mild enough to maybe not overpower the malt. I couldn’t resist picking up a bag from the import shop to find out.

I opened up the bag and the aroma was a mega blast of popcorn. I might well have been wrong about it being a gentle flavour. I could barely pick up on the smell of chocolate, never mind the malt. I cautiously gave one a try and the flavour did not match the smell. These were regular Maltesers except for the fact they were dripping in butter taste and had a gentle hint of popcorn. I spent some time trying to decide if it was too much or whether I liked them. They were sweet buttery, malty bursts of flavour. This decision process went on until the bag was empty. I think that might be my answer right there.

Maltesers Marshmallow Flavour (GB Gifts) By @Cinabar

Maltesers Marshmallow Flavour

These Maltesers Marshmallow Flavour chocolates are an import from Australia. I picked them up because they looked so different and products aren’t usually flavoured with marshmallow. We get tons of orange and mint, but marshmallow is a rarity. Then I started to think about it and I realised that products aren’t usually flavoured with marshmallow because the thing that makes marshmallow fun to eat is the texture not the flavour. Also isn’t the flavour just vanilla? It is at least a mild flavour at best.

I opened the bag and there was a slight change to the aroma from the marshmallow flavour, something sweeter and candy like but it was subtle. Inside the Marshmallow Maltesers also looked exactly like regular ones, the ball of malt and a chocolate coating but nothing else new.

The flavour was a regular Maltesers but with a hint more sugar and a hint more vanilla. These are tasty because all the base flavour are there with the malt and the chocolate but they are just not that different to the regular product. They are a cute idea, they sound fun but in reality just aren’t that special. Tasty yes, but not worth rushing out for.

White Maltesers Mini Bunnies (Asda) By @SpectreUK

White Maltesers Mini Bunnies

I do love my overindulgent puddings at night, especially after a long morning's workout in my kitchen gym. The kitchen gym has been so successful during these lockdowns that I've decided to leave my actual gym. I'd been a member for more than ten years. Of course I'll miss the people, the gym facilities, and lessons, but I haven't been there for almost a year, and my membership has been frozen for all that time. There's that awkwardness these days of wandering how close you can get to people or how far away you can be without appearing rude. The vaccines that are being slowly rolled out should help with that over time.

I'll miss the outside swimming pool and mostly the spa area of my old gym too. I'll especially miss the sauna, for its pure relaxing bliss, the conversations, and the friendships I've made and lost there. I'll miss it everyday, and I'm desperately sad to step away from it, but I've become some sort of a house cat over the past year. I'm fitter than I have been in many years, in body and mind, and the rehabilitation of my knee and shoulder have continued well, and perhaps I will go back to my old gym some day. It would mean so much to me to meet friends again in that lovely sauna...

White Maltesers Mini Bunnies

So an overindulgent pudding is most definitely required to cheer me up. These Maltesers Mini Bunnies are five individually wrapped white chocolate coated Easter Bunnies with a Malteser centre. As you can see from the photograph, the chocolate moulded bunnies are very cute indeed. I decided to have my favourite Whittard's white hot chocolate drink to wash these Maltesers Mini Bunnies down with, but first I would eat a tub of white chocolate ice cream.

These Maltesers Mini Bunnies have a sumptuous creamy white chocolate coating with that all too familiar crunchy Malteser centre. Combined with my white chocolate ice cream, and white hot chocolate drink, these Maltesers Mini Bunnies were pure overindulgence and absolute bliss. They made me smile, which is something I may need to try to do more often in the coming months, especially when they open things up a little more. I'll finally have a shave and manage to get my crazy bizarre hair neatened up a bit. Maybe I'll even leave the house for a little while... ;-)

Information on the packet; There are five Maltesers Mini Bunnies in a packet at 63 calories per bunny, with 3.6g of fat, 6.4g of sugar, and 0.02g of salt. Please see photograph for the ingredients.

Orange Maltesers Bunny (Asda) By @Cinabar

Orange Maltesers Bunny

I think orange as a flavour has had a successful 2020. Not many things or people have but orange chocolate has seen a surge of products and is really “on trend”. It seems that this is continuing into 2021 and certainly it is starting to appear in the new Easter products. I picked up one these Orange Maltesers Bunny chocolates and wondered if it orange would mix with the malt flavour.
Orange Maltesers Bunny

First thing I noticed when I took the wrapper off was how cute the chocolate bunny is! I broke him in half anyway, it had to be done. Inside you can see there is plenty of filling with plenty of small malty bits mixed into the filling. The flavour worked well. The first thing to hit os the thick and creamy melt of the milk chocolate, there the are sweet citrus tone of rich orange, followed by the malty taste. It shouldn’t really work but it does, orange and Maltesers flavour is rather nice together. I liked the texture too and the malt bits inside give a light crunch. This Orange Maltesers Bunny is definitely something I will be picking up again as a treat when I am out picking up groceries.

Maltesers Mint Biscuits (Asda) By @Cinabar

Maltesers Mint Biscuits

When the new Maltesers Mint Buttons were released earlier in the year, pre-Covid lockdowns if anyone can remember those days, I discovered a new love of mint and malt. Frankly the flavours shouldn’t go together but they hit a magical formula that just worked. Clearly it has been a successful combination because they have extended the flavour into these new Maltesers Mint Biscuits. I was looking forward to trying them.
Maltesers Mint Biscuits

The biscuits are shaped like three flattened circles and look nice in the packet, they are spaced out in pastic though and there isn’t that many in there. I gave one a try and found the biscuit to have a decent amount of chocolate and nice solid biscuit texture that snapped when broken. The mint flavour is the most dominant taste and in this format the malt was a bit more hidden, with the biscuit taking some of the room. The malt was still present it was just not as strong as could be. As a fan of mint I still enjoyed these biscuits with my afternoon coffee but I would have liked a shade more malt in the taste.

Mint Maltesers Buttons (Poundland) By @cinabar

Maltesers Mint Buttons

I love both mint flavours with chocolate and malt flavours with chocolate too, but when I spotted these Mint Maltesers Buttons I have to confess I’m not sure I liked the sound of all three tastes being combined together. It just felt like it might be a bit much and I have to admit it sounded like it was a curious choice for a launch of a new chocolate.
The buttons are a few centimetres across and speckled with balls of malt, the aroma of mint is quite strong once the bag is open. I tried a button and found mint to be the dominant taste, it was sweet and fresh and I liked it, the chocolate is quite thick in its melt and rather rich and soothing, I liked this combined with the mint. The malt flavour (and bare in mind this is a Maltesers brand product so that should be dominant) was lost at first, but did develop towards the end of the flavour. I liked the crunch from the malt bits mixed in with the chocolate and I can’t say they weren’t malty, it is just they were very much mint with a hint.
Mint is an overpowering flavour, there aren’t many products I have had that have managed to combine it with something daring and win, (one exception is Limited Edition After Eight Mint with Mango-Pineapple). These Mint Maltesers Buttons are heavy on the mint but there is enough malt to make them work and enough of a light crunch to make them enjoyable to eat. I would buy these again very happily.

Maltesers Biscuits (Asda) By @Cinabar]

Maltesers Biscuits

These are the new biscuits from Maltesers which sounds like an excellent way of developing the Maltesers range. The most stand out thing on this box of Maltesers Biscuits is the large label saying ‘More to Share’, presumably these biscuits are also available in small packets, but these were the only ones I saw in Asda. I’m always happy to have a big box of biscuits though, so would have chose these any how.

Maltesers Biscuits

Inside the box are curious looking bobble shaped biscuits. Maltesers decided to ditch the round shape as a concept and instead went for a trio of small round biscuits stuck together forming a long biscuit. The insides are quite golden in colour, they clearly went for the malty look.
I have to say I was impressed by the flavour, the Maltesers taste was the star of the show, I thought it might be a little lost but it shone through beautifully. The chocolate is good too, sweet and creamy, but it also helps to recreate the Maltesers flavour. The texture is good, crunchy but light and they soon dissolve in the mouth, much like regular Maltesers. I think these are good new product for Maltesers and they are very much in fitting with their signature chocolate balls. They have lots of the flavour of the original which is impressive.
I like the fun shape of the Maltesers Biscuits it made them stand out as something a bit different and the packet didn’t last long. Although these are currently an exclusive to Asda, they will be appearing in other supermarkets in about a month’s time, but are worth hunting out.

White Chocolate Malt Balls (PoundLand) By @Cinabar

White Chocolate Malt Balls (PoundLand)
White Chocolate Malt Balls (PoundLand)

I’m going to start by talking about the legend that is White Chocolate Maltesers. They were a limited edition item some time ago, but they have made reappearances, sadly I haven’t seen them for a few years now. Oddly enough White Maltesers Hot Chocolate comes out most winters, just not the actually chocolates. White Chocolate Maltesers have quite a following on social media requesting their return but I’ve not heard anything about them making a come back this year either.

On a cheerier note Poundland have a introduced a new product that might just help fill the gap. Here we have a blue box filled with White Chocolate Malt Balls. This consists of crunchy malt balls all rolled in thick white chocolate. I gave one a try and found that the malt flavour wasn’t quite as strong as I had expected, but combined with the white chocolate each bite was a lovely sweet and creamy treat.
The flavour of the malt may be more delicate, but I liked the focus o the white chocolate, they were creamy and then after a pleasant crunch the malty tones shone through. I think fans of Maltesers will be pleased with these. The White Chocolate Malt Balls are moreish, and so easy to sit and nibble with the TV on. At just £1 a box they are a perfect stocking filling, or just a treat for a film night in.

New Maltesers Buttons (WH Smiths) By @Cinabar

I was browsing WH Smiths at the train station, as I pass by it on my commute, and I noticed an empty shelf and a sign saying New Maltesers Buttons. I asked about them and the lady on the till said they sold like hot cakes when she put them out earlier, but that they were expecting a delivery in a bit. The next day I went in and spotted them on the shelf and bought a handful of bags! I was intrigued to see what all the fuss was about, plus they were on offer. ;-)

The bags are fairly small, and the calories per pack are just 166, so they aren’t too bad for a treat. I poured out the contests to have a look, half expected flattened Maltesers, but found discs of milk chocolate speckled with Maltesers pieces.
The flavour worked vey well, although proportionally there was more chocolate than Maltesers pieces, the maltiness still shone through. The buttons were easy to much on and fun to eat. The chocolate was thick when it melted, and felt rather soothing. The Maltesers bits in the buttons still added crunch, and I liked the flavour of the buttons. These were a nice snack, and a good pick me up after a long day at work. Something I would buy again, if I didn’t already have another five bags sitting in the fridge!

Maltesers Luxury Chocolates (Debenhams) By @Cinabar

A new branch of Debenhams opened in Wolverhampton, which is quite exciting for the city. Obviously I went for a bit of am explore, and having looked round the clothes and make-up I discovered the gift section, and within that of course there was the confectionary. Oh my, I could practically build my entire Christmas list from the choice there. I did however decide to treat myself to these new Maltesers Luxury Chocolates, for blogging research purposes of course.
Although Maltesers are synonymous with Christmas gifts, they are usually in their normal form of a malt flavours crunchy ball coated in milk chocolate. This year Maltesers have introduced these new Maltesers Luxury Chocolates and just for fun individually wrapped them too! Don’t worry though they are actually quite big chocolates inside the box, there are 16 of them individually wrapped. The box is epically bright inside too, it is very red!

Each one consists of milk chocolate, malt and wafer and tastes rather good. I didn’t think that the chocolate was quite the same flavour as that in regular Maltesers, although it was still sweet and milky. The flavour of the malt was a little subdued but the mix of textures made these. They were soft and crunchy in different places and nice to munch on. I liked the fact they took two bites and they were a bit of fun. The only improvement for me would be a touch more malt in the taste, after all they are called Maltesers so it aught to be the dominant flavour.

Maltesers Merryteaser Mini Reindeer (WHSmith’s) By @SpectreUK

Merry Christmas! I know we just got through Halloween and then there was Bonfire Night, but I walked through the shops earlier and this packet of Maltesers Merryteaser Mini Reindeer practically jumped into my hand. Besides there is at least one bloke up the road that has put his Christmas lights on his house!

Anyway, with five individually wrapped milk chocolate reindeer with a crunchy honeycombed filling in the 59g packet, they seemed to be begging to be eaten. Each cute chocolate reindeer shape has a crunchy and slightly creamy centre that is a step away from the usual chocolate marble shaped Maltesers. I found the packet went down very quickly. Too quickly to share unfortunately for others, but not unfortunately for me! Merry Christmas! I’m sure I’ll get into the peace, goodwill and share with others mood as Christmas rolls on, however… I am exceptionally greedy!

Information on the packet;

With 63 calories per 11.8g reindeer, having 3.6g of fat, 6.5g of sugar, and 0.04g of salt. See photograph for ingredients.
