Krispy Kreme Bites - Tim Bits but KK - Sainsbury's [@NLi10]

 My friend at work buys a lot of Tim Bits - these are Tim Horton's  'doughnut holes' made of the same flesh as a doughnut but with only a little of it.  This means the office can have a bite but not over indulge and it's a lot cheaper to get a round in (so to speak).

The Tim bits have various fillings and flavours

Krispy Kreme have added their version to the pricy supermarket stands and advertised them on posters outside so that weaklings like me pay £6 for 8 tiny dots.

The sticker placement is I think deliberate - the middle makes it into bits

And they do look like toddler/cup of tea sized doughnuts.

But - they just aren't quite the same.  All of them are varieties on the same plain inner. The sprinkles and glazes add a little, but not much.  For the Tim Hortons one there is a choice to be made on what you fancy. Here they are essentially the same.

I'd honestly recommend just spending the £6 on 2 (maybe 3?) regular KK doughnuts and then cutting them in to quarters.  Much nicer texture and flavour combo.

The only reason to buy this is if you are snacking in the car with coffee, or you are Snow White and want one for each of the Dwarves and a spare for yourself.

Quality Street's Purple One, but as a Kripsy Kreme Doughnut [@NLi10]

 My partner bought me a Krispy Kreme doughnut, and peaking in the bag I thought it was a standard brown one - but no it's a Purple One - as in the Quality Street chocolate!

The colours are a lot more noticeable under the right lighting, and it certainly entices

Even Flo was excited by it.  Inside it has both the fluffy white filling and the heavy Nutella style filling which made a nice change.

These were originally for Halloween so you might not be able to find them now, but a whole Christmas selection box of Quality Street doughnuts would be great fun so I hope they do that.

Halloween Doughnuts (Krispy Kreme) By @Cinabar

It’s that time of year again, the Halloween decorations are up, and we’ve started our annual marathon of horror films. After a weekend of two comic cons, we stopped at a service station on the way home and couldn’t resist treating ourselves to a couple of Krispy Kreme’s seasonal doughnuts.

First up is Howl-O-Ween, the chocolatey one in the photo. This is a classic chocolate ring doughnut, neatly decorated for the season with a spooky screaming face. The flavour is familiar but delicious, and the festive design makes it feel extra indulgent.

The second doughnut is Pumpkin Spicemare, the one that looks like a pumpkin. The orange icing and pumpkin face are spot on for the season, and the flavour inside is something a little different, pumpkin spice cream. The filling is packed with warming spices, rich and comforting, and works perfectly with the sweet icing on top.

Both of these were a real treat after a busy weekend. I heartily recommend grabbing them while you can, Krispy Kreme’s Halloween range is as short-lived as a ghostly apparition, but every bit as delightful.

Wonder Woman Doughnut (Krispy Kreme) By @Cinabar

There’s a new Superman film out this week, and we’ve been catching up on some of the other superhero films we missed first time around. I have to admit I’m quite enjoying them, though maybe not all the Batman movies… sorry, Mr Clooney! On our way back from a Comic Con, we stopped at a service station and spotted a Krispy Kreme cabinet featuring their new superhero doughnuts. The timing seemed perfect, so we decided to treat ourselves.

I went for my favourite superhero, who I was even wearing on my T-shirt, and picked the Wonder Woman Doughnut.

It’s a ring doughnut that looks very striking, with bright red icing all around. It’s topped with the Wonder Woman logo and decorated with blue sprinkles, white stars, and a yellow stripe.

I took a bite and was really impressed with the flavour. It was lovely and fruity, with the red icing delivering a strong raspberry taste, not from jam like usual, but from the icing itself. The doughnut was sweet, soft, and fluffy, with the icing adding a fresh berry kick that worked perfectly. It was a genuinely enjoyable treat, both in taste and presentation. Just the pick-me-up we needed with a coffee, and it powered us through the drive home.

Hoppy Easter Krispy Kreme Marshmallow Bunny Doughnuts [@NLi10]

 We were in the supermarket looking for toddler snacks with friends when I spotted these exciting easter variations on Krispy Kreme's.  The one on the right is just a chocolate bunny but the one on the left is excitingly bowling ball themed!

Ah no - that's a bunny, and its filled with Mallow - perfect!

Look at all that lovely fluffy mallow.  It's not as thick as I expected but does stick to the doughnut.  It's kind of like a tea-cake mixed with a doughnut though which works well.  As long as you like sugar.

We visited the Bear cafe in Evesham a few days later and they put a bear in my coffee - what is it with food and putting animals in it?!

Ghostbusters Doughnuts (Krispy Kreme) By @Cinabar

Halloween is very definitely on the horizon. There are a few interesting Halloween products around; there are tins of sweets for sale, and one of our neighbours has already decorated their front door and garden. I did buy some Halloween light-up plastic ghosts for the window and a tub of sweets for any callers. This is probably as far as I’ll go.

We were on our way back from a Comic Con and stopped at a service station and spotted the Krispy Kreme kiosk and these wonderful-looking Ghostbusters Doughnuts, so obviously we picked up a couple. 

We bought the Slimer and the Ghostbusters Chocolate Icing. The Slimer is a wonderful, rich, sweet, and fresh flavour. The taste is lemon, which always works well; even the filling is green in colour. I would have thought they would choose lime instead of lemon, as it is green and is part of the word slime. Oh well, either way, I love the funky purple icing and the gorgeous flavour. The chocolate one starts with an original doughnut, but it is covered with chocolate icing, cookie crumb, and of course a rather nice Ghostbuster logo. It was sweet, and there was loads of chocolate; the crumb gave it a crunch too, which gave it a bit of texture. Another yummy doughnut. 

Both of these doughnuts were just perfect after a busy day after Comic Con, but get them while you can as they are a limited edition for Halloween. 

Friends Doughnuts (Krispy Kreme) By @Cinabar

I love the Friends series. I have watched every episode and am currently watching it a second time, enjoying seeing Spectre experience it for the first time. I don’t know how he hasn’t seen it before, but he has no idea where the whole Ross and Rachel thing is going, which is very entertaining. Somehow it is Friend’s thirtyth birthday, and to celebrate, Krispy Kreme has brought our celebration doughnuts. I picked up a box of three to try. They have cool names, too.

We Were On A Coffee Break

This is a very cool-looking doughnut, complete with a white chocolate disc with the Central Perk logo. It is a ring doughnut, but there is a dollop of vanilla frosting in the gap, and the main doughnut is coffee-glazed. The sponge was soft, and the icing was lightly crisp. The flavour is absolutely lovely and reminded me of coffee cream. Not too strong, but sweet and delightful. We need more coffee-flavoured doughnuts in the world. 

How you doin’?

The doughnut is very pretty purple with a yellow frame made of icing. It is made to look like Monica’s door and named after Joey’s favourite chat-up line. The doughnut is very fruity; the main icing is passion fruit, and the yellow is mango. This gives the doughnut a wonderful tropical feel, perfect for a nice, warm evening. 

Trifle

Trifle gets a special mention in one of the Friends episodes when they try and make the classic British dessert, but thankfully, unlike the episode where the recipe got mixed up, there is no beef sautéed with peas and onions as a layer in this doughnut. There is, however, a lovely filling of strawberry custard and chocolate sprinkles. This one is a bit more of a classic flavour, but still a yummy addition to the set. 

Krispy Kreme Reese's Peanut Butter Doughnut (Tesco) By @Cinabar

Peanut butter and chocolate are a fantastic combo and one that is overlooked here in the UK. It feels very American, and despite being British, I just love the mix. In recent years, Reese’s has become more available here in the UK; you can even buy peanut butter Kit Kats, which are a joy. Krispy Kreme's new doughnut is up my street, introducing the Krispy Kreme Reese's Peanut Butter Doughnut.

 

So we have a soft doughnut, topped with dark chocolate and Reese's flavoured drops, and filled with peanut butter. I eagerly gave it a try. The first bite didn’t catch the filling but still tasted like chocolate and peanuts due to the peanut butter flavour drops on top. It was a delight. When I did hit the filling, my tastebuds were in heaven. The peanut butter inside was wonderfully nutty and salty, and mixed with the chocolate, it was just such a delight. Wow, these are super good. In fact, I am currently living the dream. The only problem is that these are a limited edition and available for August only, so yes, I need to get more before the month is out. Does anyone know if they freeze?

Krispy Kreme Valentine’s Doughnuts (Tesco) By @cinabar

We don’t get as many limited-edition Valentine’s Day products as we should, but I spotted this funky pink box in Tesco and couldn’t resist. These are the limited edition Krispy Kreme Valentine’s Doughnuts, and there are four in the box.

We had a heart-shaped Strawberry Kreme Delight, a heart-shaped Choc Raspberry Escape, a round Sprinkled with Love and a heart-shaped Salted Caramel Temptation. All the doughnuts looked stunning, and there was a good mix of flavours. I hadn't had a Krispy Kreme in far too long, but these were the perfect after-dinner treat.

My favourite was the Salted Caramel Temptation, not only because it was nicely decorated but also because it was a divine caramel overload. The filling was fantastic, just the right amount of rich buttery caramel. Seriously, I could have spooned that on toast! I really must keep an eye on the Krispy Kreme doughnut editions going forward and not leave it so long next time.

McVities Jaffa Nut (Krispy Kreme) By @Cinabar

Is a Jaffa cake a cake or a biscuit? Cake surely as there is sponge? Is a Jaffa Nut a Cake or a Donut? Donut? Snacking can be a complex business when snacks collide. This is the latest of the hybrid snacks with McVities in conjunction with Krispy Kreme turning Jaffa Cakes and Donuts into Jaffa Nuts.

The chocolate coating these Krispy Kreme McVities Jaffa Nuts is quite dark, and a little sticky. I was just trying to turn the donut to take a look and my fingers were getting chocolate on them. I do like the look, the icing looks very similar to Jaffa Cakes. I assumed from looking at that the central part, the bit that looks like the top of a Jaffa Cake, would be where all the orange jam would be loaded. I bit in and didn’t get any filling once I hit the middle, just a nice soft donut and the darker chocolate topping. A couple more bites was sadly the same. At this point, there was no orange taste, I thought my donut was broken.

Then I tucked in around the edge and found the jam, off centre at the edge but present at least. It was a lovely filling, it had a good zesty sweet orange taste, and was a bit more runny than you’d find the traditional Jaffa cake. I think it was a bit more zesty and sour too, but I liked that contrast with the rest of the sweetness. The orange jam filling made it, so it was a shame I had a few bites without it, but once discovered, I was thoroughly enjoying the flavour.

I think they have done a good job of combining the two snacks and I would gladly pick up more of these Krispy Kreme McVities Jaffa Nuts while they are available. What is next? I’m hoping for a Hob Nut (HobNob Donut). Yes, maybe don’t leave me in charge of picking the names, that sounds more like a spare part for an oven!

Jelly Belly Jelly Beans - Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Edition (GB Gifts) By @Cinabar

I picked up this packet of sweets online from GB Gifts and, as often happens with internet shopping, I had hoped the packet would have been bigger. I really do need to make the effort to check out the weight in grams of things before I buy (these were just 28g). Anyway, here we have Jelly Belly Jelly Beans Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Edition and I poured out the contents to have a look.

There are five flavours in the bag, but three of them look very similar and are hard to tell apart. The light pink and the dark chocolate brown are easy to spot. I gave them a try and was impressed by the flavours. They are all very definitely doughnut flavoured, they have a lovely soft dough taste. The other flavours, like the apple, strawberry and blueberry are all quite mild and each just add a hint of the fruit. The chocolate is the strongest flavour and did taste like chocolate icing. All these Jelly Belly Krispy Kreme Doughnut Edition Jelly Beans were tasty and all had that Krispy Kreme flavour which was rather special.

I still looking forward to the idea of a Krispy Kreme flavoured (well probably decorated with) Jelly Belly Jelly Beans doughnut, I think that would be an awesome treat.

The Nexus Level Xbox Doughnut (Krispy Kreme @krispykremeUK) By @cinabar

Firstly let me start by saying that at Foodstuff Finds we are gamers, we all have an Xbox and we all have been playing for quite a few years. Krispy Kreme are clearly into Xbox too as they have launched this The Nexus Level Xbox Doughnut, which celebrate twenty years of Xbox. I remember seeing Halo on Xbox for the first time on my brother’s console and knowing then that I had to have one. I have made (real life and virtually) so many friends through Xbox Live, and thank the ones who tolerate me despite my almost instant deaths in Warzone. We always have fun though! So in celebration we had a gaming night and ate doughnuts, it seemed perfect. One thing and I’m not sure there is much Krispy Kreme can do about this, but sticky fingers from doughnuts and games controllers are the best mix! Doughnuts first then gaming, it seemed the best method.

The The Nexus Level Xbox Doughnut is a green ice doughnut with the xbox logo showing through thanks to sprinkled icing. The icing is plain icing which is shame, I’m not sure what flavour an Xbox should b but my heart said lime because of the green. Inside the doughnut is a chocolate batter which was divine. I love a chocolate doughnut and this was no exception, it had the perfect Krispy Kreme flavour, pretty icing and a wonderful chocolate hit from the filling, totally yummy.

If you buy a box of 12 there are on pack promotions too and you get a month of gamer pass. Happy birthday Xbox, here is to many more happy years of gaming. The doughnuts are available during August.

This seasons Krispy Kremes - mint choc chip, raspberry ripple & Biscoff (@NLi10)

 Tesco have made it easier to buy some Krispy Kreme for my birthday.

It looks a bit sparse here but I had just taken 12 out.

I got a mixed box so I could try all the new flavours.

Here we have a lovely Dolce Gusto coffee and the new raspberry ripple doughnut 

Filled with amazing jam, one of my colleagues called it her new favourite. Essentially a raspberry and vanilla mix. Excellent 

 

For the more choc minded person we have the mint-choc-chip. A minty topped doughnut filled with choc creme.

Lastly we have the Biscoff - which I think I’ve had before but happy to have again

Crumbled on top and with wafers of white choc it’s very nice

Yum! Probably the least exciting of the trio, but really nice too.

Putting Jam in things - Krispy Kremes & Mochi (@NLi10)

 Japanese sweets can be scary as the flavours are not what westerners expect.

This cheerful person is wearing a strawberry which is good news!

The back hints at a gooey centre.  This could be good.  

I think this is a mochi, and it's so soft and light and fluffy.

And look at that! I didn't dare bite further in to try for a picture as it was already trying to bust out.  Strawberry rice cake with very sweet strawberry filling! result.  Apparently this came from WingYip so I'll be acquiring more soon.

And what's this - some filled doughnuts?  At train station prices?!

These are the ones I got to eat.  The one on the right is the normal strawberry filled one.

But the left...

Also filled - but with raspberry! granted you don't get as much, but this is probably a more acceptable portion.  I wouldn't know as I ate both while waiting for the train.

Lovely flavours all-round, but I do miss the days where these were a little more affordable and less of a super special treat.

Krispy Kreme Khristmas 2020 (@NLi10)

 It's a Christmas tradition at this point to get hold of this years festive variations of the Krispy Kreme, partly to see if they've run out of ideas yet - and partly because we love these things.

The Reindeer one I didn't eat - it's the standard caramel ring with a clever red nose plonked in the middle.  Very inventive but not really to my tastes.

The tacky Christmas jumper is a chocolate crème doughnut with a green iced top and gingerbread man and nice sprinkles.  I really approve of this - sure I'm more of a raspberry glazed kind of guy, but this has a good balance of icing sweet and more doughnut sweet and chocolate sweet inside.

We shared the remaining Santa's belly doughnut.  The doughnut itself was surprisingly empty.  Maybe they forgot to squirt this one, but the flavour of the top was very fruity so it may be deliberate.

Overall a success!  I'm not brave enough to go into town to try the fresh KK ones (and Tim Hortons which is great when you've visited the German market - but that's not here this year either) so these will have to do.

Belated Valentines Hearts In A Box - Krispy Kreme (@NLi10)

Valentines things are in store for a long time before the actual day, but often seem to disappear on the stroke of midnight so that the next time based fad can be shoved onto the shelves.

I don’t think that Krispy Kreme got that memo - they are still selling their Valentines Heart doughnuts and so I got to try them all.

I walked past the little cart in the Mander Centre, Wolverhampton and spotted they had the poster up - checked that Cinabar hadn’t already got these to write up - and got a box with one of each for £5.

They aren’t quite as fresh as the hot-light ones I’d usually pick up from Selfridges but they certainly hit the spot.  We sliced them in two and shared them - mostly so you could see the fillings.

First up we have Nutella - which is always a welcome flavour.  The doughnut tasted like classic baked KK and the creme was a little sweeter than standard jar Nutella because of this, but it worked really well.  This was the main one I wanted to try and I wasn’t disappointed. 

The red and white KK is a classic, with the dried fruit popping over the sweet icing and the fruity centre.  Changing it to a heart shape ruins none of this and it’s always a pleasure to eat one of these.

Last up was the dark choc with mint heart.  Probably the strangest combo that they had on offer, and im not sure it fully works.  I think that mint and dark are fine together but with the usual sweetness of the KK added on top it’s all a bit muddled.  Calling it the worst of the three is hardly criticism though - I’d eat another one of these with pleasure!

Maybe this is the start of a good new trend - giving me an extra week or two where I can pick up the timed exclusives keeps people coming back for more a little bit longer. And who knows, maybe now I’ll make an eggstra special effort to see if I can have a Krispy Kreme Easter doughnut when they do show up.
