Snickers Creamy Peanut Butter (Morrisons) By @Cinabar

There was a time when finding a chocolate bar with peanut butter felt almost impossible. Thankfully, in recent years, brands like Reese’s and Kit Kat with Peanut Butter have made it much easier to get your nutty chocolate fix. Still, it’s always exciting to try something a bit different, and that’s exactly what Snickers Creamy Peanut Butter offers. I spotted these in a multipack at Morrisons and, naturally, couldn’t resist picking one up as a post-work treat.

As soon as I unwrapped it, the smell of nuts and chocolate hit immediately. Each bar actually consists of two smaller bars, each layered with gooey caramel, crunchy peanuts, and topped with a creamy peanut butter layer. As a peanut butter fan, I loved the flavour and the combination of textures. The caramel stayed perfectly gooey, while the peanut bits added a satisfying crunch and a salty, nutty kick that complemented the chocolate beautifully.

Overall, this is a full-on nutty snack that hits every mark for anyone who enjoys a rich, peanut-packed chocolate treat.

Snickers Wafer Rolls (B&M) By @Cinabar

I picked these up in B&M and they look to be an import, although all the packaging is in English. Inside the pack you get two wafer rolls, which immediately makes them feel more like a lighter snack than a full on chocolate bar.

The wafer itself is lovely and crisp, and I really enjoyed the mix of textures. The chocolate coating is smooth and does its job well, with little caramel crystals on top adding extra sweetness and a bit of stickiness. The filling is a chocolate peanut flavour, but it leans much more towards sweet than nutty.

The peanut flavour is very mild, with no crunch from nuts and none of that bold peanut hit you normally expect from a Snickers. Because of that, it does not quite live up to the name, but taken on its own terms it is still an enjoyable chocolatey wafer snack.

These are good if you want something sweet that feels a bit lighter and less filling than a standard Snickers. Not one for peanut lovers, but still nice enough for a quick chocolate fix when you do not want anything too heavy.

Snickers Butterscotch (B&M) By @Cinabar

We popped into B&M at the weekend and, unsurprisingly, came away with a few interesting bits to try. My haul naturally leaned heavily towards the chocolate aisle. One bar that immediately caught my eye was this Snickers Butterscotch.

It is clearly an import, although I am not entirely sure from where. The front of the packaging is in English, but there is a large sticker covering the ingredients and details, which is not especially helpful. Based on the packet, I would guess either America or Australia, but either way they seem to be fairly easy to find in the UK at the moment.

As soon as I opened the wrapper, I could smell chocolate, peanuts, and the most glorious sweet butterscotch aroma. I took a bite and it did not disappoint. The familiar chocolate and peanut combo was there, but the real star was the rich, sweet butterscotch with its deep brown sugar flavour. It honestly reminded me of peanut brittle, and I mean that in the best possible way.

I have a very sweet tooth, so the extra sweetness did not bother me at all. It might be a bit much for some people, but as a sugary treat it was absolutely right up my street.

If you spot it, I would grab one while you can. B&M is brilliant for unusual imported chocolate bars, but there is never any guarantee they will still be around in a couple of weeks.

Snickers Fruit and Nut Bar (Asda) By @Cinabar

While browsing the aisles of Asda, I stumbled upon the Snickers Fruit and Nut Bar. Positioned near the cashier, it caught my eye as a potential treat to reward myself after a tiring day. Its packaging suggested a new twist on the classic Snickers bar, but my curiosity quickly turned into scepticism as I unwrapped it at home.

The familiar aroma of peanuts and chocolate greeted me as I opened the bar, it had a hint of the traditional Snickers. However, its appearance told a different story. About one whole peanut adorned the top, accompanied by a smattering of other peanut bits. The base was coated with a thin layer of chocolate, with a drizzle over the top, but it was clear this wasn’t the Snickers we all know.

A closer inspection of the ingredients revealed why. Snickers bars are famed for their indulgent combination of chocolate, caramel, peanuts, and nougat. This bar, however, was decidedly different. The caramel and nougat were missing entirely, replaced with a base primarily made of dates. Yes, dates! Not exactly what I associate with the fun Snickers brand.

The texture was pleasant enough, with the dates providing a chewy base and the peanuts adding a bit of crunch. There was just enough chocolate to keep things sweet, and the overall flavour was enjoyable. However, it didn’t feel like a treat in the way a classic Snickers does. Instead, it leaned heavily into the “health bar” territory, more suitable as a snack for those looking to curb a sweet tooth while staying in the January spirit.

In conclusion, the Snickers Fruit and Nut Bar is a tasty option if you’re seeking a healthier alternative, but it falls short of delivering the indulgence promised by the Snickers name. The branding feels slightly off for a bar that’s more health-conscious than indulgent, and while it’s pleasant enough, it doesn’t quite live up to the expectations set by its famous predecessor. Marathon Retro Edition Snickers (Morrisons) By @Cinabar

We’ve been re-watching some classic comedy shows from the 1980s and 1990s, most recently Friends. So, as you can imagine, I’m fully in the right headspace for this delightful blast from the past: Marathon Retro Edition Snickers. Like Opal Fruits, there will always be a part of my brain that refers to classic confectionery by its original name, no matter what the packaging says now.

The retro packaging made me smile and transported me straight back to my childhood. Yes, it’s essentially a Snickers, but trust me, it tastes better (even if only in my head) when it’s called Marathon. Just look at that cute packaging:

I gave it a try, and okay, it’s a Snickers; chocolate, nougat, and nuts, a winning combination as always. But I bought these for the nostalgia, and on that front, they absolutely delivered.

They’ve re-released these before, and I know I’ll pick up another pack when they return in a year or so. I can’t help it, they just make me smile.

One final note: I bought this multipack from Morrisons for £1.95. Please don’t spend a fortune on them through eBay or similar sites, they’re in the shops right now at a reasonable price!

Snickers Berry Whip (Candy Mail) By @cinabar

I don’t think I have ever eaten a Snickers and thought, "This needs strawberry," but here we are because somebody did. This Snickers Berry Whip is an import from India, although it is called "berry whip," the picture is very much that of strawberries, and the packaging is very pink.

I opened up the wrapper, and, as with a lot of imported Snickers and Mars chocolate bars, I noticed how much smaller they were than the UK versions. I gave the bar a try, and the strawberry taste was lovely and prominent; it was like strawberry cream with peanut. It's not an obvious pairing, but it was a fruity delight to eat. The textures from the nuts, the sweet tones of the milk chocolate, and the berry were a lovely combination.

I may not have thought Snickers were missing a strawberry flavour but it turns out it does work. I was rather impressed by this Snickers Berry Whip and would definitely buy it again. Also, it is quite a cute stocking filler for Valentine's Day if you know someone who likes things that are a little bit different.

Snickers Caramel & Bacon Edition (Candy Mail) By @Cinabar

What new atrocity is this? Why would anyone think putting bacon in a Snickers is a good idea? Well, apparently, this limited edition Snickers Caramel & Bacon is from Brazil, and as mad as it sounds I couldn’t help but buy it, so I’m judging myself too. I have tried bacon and maple syrup before and did like it, so maybe this will work out. The wrapper is a bright orange and this camouflages the rasher of bacon on the right of the wrapper a little, like they are slightly in denial themselves.

I opened up the bar and it looked normal enough, there were no obvious hints of bacon and nothing in the aroma. The bar looked small overall. I think it is smaller than a UK Snickers, but perhaps similar to a multipack sized bar. I gave it a try and and for the first few seconds of chewing I was absolutely convinced it was a normal Snickers bar, until this wave of smokey flavour hit. It wasn't that strong, but there it was, a tiny bit meaty and a rough smokey taste that was blending into the chocolate. As it wasn’t that strong, it wasn’t that offensive, and I could sort of see it working with the flavour. A smokey chocolate isn’t that bad, I finished the bar. I was still left wondering why though. It isn’t the sort of thing I’d buy again, but sometimes I complain that there aren’t enough crazy flavours in the world, so thank you Brazil for being brave and bringing out a curious bar.

Snickers Triple Treat (Tesco) By @Cinabar

So this is a new multipack of bars from Snickers called Triple Treat. There have also been new bars launched under the Galaxy and Mars lines also with the Triple Treat branding. It refers to fruit, nuts and chocolate. The latter two maybe, but the fruit in question here is date which I suspect is not everyone’s go to ‘treat’ food. Oh well. I opened up the wrapper and firstly these bars were small. They do look nice with chocolate and nuts. The inside, though, is a squashed date filling. The fruit in it was nice, but made it taste like one of those good for you bars you pick up at health food shops. I also felt fruit didn’t really go with the Snickers theme. I mean, this did taste a bit like a Snickers bar because of the chocolate and peanut combination, but the added fruit sweetness took the edge away.

 

I have a couple of issues with this. The chocolate means it isn’t actually a healthy bar. If you are calorie counting, Snickers make a portion control bar (with no added fruit) that are 99 calories a bar, which I think would be my preference. Finally, the Mars version of the Triple Treat also has fruit and peanuts, so how is that different? I have a box, I’ll report back!

Snickers Creamy Peanut Butter (@Nli10)

Americans love peanut butter.  At least they think they do!  Real peanut butter has two ingredients (peanuts and violence) and it's just the proportions of the two that change the crunch and consistency.  Feel free to add a little salt to taste too!

Here we see that Snickers have decided that they should be more like the artificial peanut paste products that dominate America (but with actual chocolate for a change) so what's it like?

You get three portions - which is just a modern way of saying that this bar is three times the recommended snack size of 100 kcal.  You better bet I ate it all in one sitting.

The choc was a surprise - it's proper stuff! The insides...

Well it's just mush and goo.  You'd need a pretty good knife to avoid squishing all the layers - another reason for the portion size is that you really just want to put all this in at once.

And it works to a point - but the tough, chewy base and the paste on top really don't integrate well so you are just eating two odd things together.  I'd rather have a real Snickers, or just the paste coated in chocolate like all the Hersey festive blobs.  This paste is at least less 'American' in flavour and may actually contain lots of peanuts so it's a step in the right direction.

One to watch, but unlikely to stick around.

 

Snickers Creamy Peanut Butter (Tesco) By @Cinabar

I spotted this new Snickers Creamy Peanut Butter bar in our local Tesco store, near the tills as an impulse buy. It worked too, I love peanut butter and chocolate so I couldn’t wait to give it a try. The lady on the till was excited to, she had got herself one for her break and agreed there isn’t nearly enough peanut butter choccie bars in the UK. This new Snickers bar is actually in three piece inside, and it looks much thinner than a regular bar. It is made with ‘creamy peanut butter’ and the caramel underneath. I gave one of the pieces a try and absolutely loved the combination of flavours. Peanut butter and chocolate are meant to be and the texture from the sticky tooth clogging peanut butter and sweet chocolate just made me smile. The texture isn’t to everyone’s taste but I love it, and I love the salty nutty flavour that flows with it too.

The bar is significantly different to a regular Snickers, the caramel is there with peanut pieces but the nougat is missing, replaced by a thin layer of peanut butter. For me this worked nuts and chocolate are a dream together and I loved every bite. I don’t get the split of three pieces though, I know it is supposed to be portion control but I ate all three. It is Friday, it has been a very long week, so give me a break! :-D

Coffee Mate - Snickers Edition (Import via Amazon UK) By @Cinabar

Following on from my write up about Salted Caramel Coffee Mate I couldn’t resist having a look on Amazon (the UK site) to see what options there were for sale for other Coffee Mate varieties. There were lots actually although all imports, French Vanilla, Pumpkin Spice, Irish coffee and then I spotted Coffee Mate Snickers Edition and suddenly it was clear what I was going to buy!

So the box arrived and it was a cute dispenser in card board, I made myself a coffee and added a serving of of the Snickers Coffee Mate. The drink had a lovely creamy flavour of chocolate and nut, but it was a little mild I added a second serving and ended up with such a delicious coffee. It was mostly like a mocha but the addition of peanut was super soothing too. You really could taste the yummy Snickers.

I thought when this huge box of Coffee Mate Snickers arrived that I had over ordered and that there was a real risk I wouldn’t like it, now I know I need to use two pots per coffee I’m more worried about running out! This is the perfect afternoon pick me up, soothing but still works well with the coffee.

Candy Pop Popcorn - Snickers (GB Gifts) By @Cinabar

There is not a lot to do on New Years Day at the best of times but in a Tier 4 lockdown there is even less than usual, sadly. Luckily we have TV streaming services and popcorn so we decided to pop (pun intended) on a movie and try out this Snickers Candy Pop Popcorn I picked up online from GB Gifts. I bought this a little while ago with the intention of eating it with a film, so we decided to try out Hamilton for a bit of culture and history and as we can’t get out to the theatre properly at the minute.

 

I started by trying to open the bag of Snickers Candy Pop Popcorn and it didn’t just pull open, I had to use the rip tear on the side which meant opening the popcorn sideways, which worked out ok as it formed a sort of bowl. The popcorn was rather tasty, there was chocolate and caramel and nuts all mixed in making this a very moreish bag. As with many popcorns some pieces had more topping than others and those that had all the ingredients were indulgent and super tasty. Some pieces were a little plainer but it added to the mix and kept it interesting.

I would definitely by this popcorn again, it had good flavours and good textures, I liked the idea of combining chocolate bars with popcorn and hope there are some other combos in the future. Hamilton too was fantastic, I had no idea who Alexander Hamilton was before is started and no idea of his impact on the American Constitution or his eventful life.

Snickers 99Kcal Chocolate Snack Bars (Tesco) By @Cinabar

During the break between Christmas and New Years I realised we had run out of the basics so I popped into our local Tesco Express to top up on bread and milk. On a shelf I spotted these Snickers 99Kcal Chocolate Snack Bars, and I picked some up to give them a try. At the till the man on the counter said “Blimey they are tiny what’s the point?” I said it is calorie counting he pointed out I’d bought multiple bars to eat, “touché I replied”.   :-D

 

I did however just eat one bar with a cup of coffee this afternoon so I think I have the upper hand, so long as nobody counts the calories of the slice of Yule log I had after my dinner. I am not officially calories counting until January as I still have Christmas goodies to eat! The bar was nice, it tasted like a Snickers, there was still a decent amount of nuts and it had all the right flavours. My problem is that is just looked so small and disappointing, all I kept thinking is I’d rather have a couple of Celebrations sweets which I think is about the same calories but is psychologically a nice treat having two wrapped sweets. I can’t explain that but some how this just felt like a weirdly shrunken bar. I bought the Mars version for spectre to try, looking forward to his opinion!

Marathon Bars Are Back!!! (Morrisons) By @Cinabar

Younger readers might not know that the original name of Snickers in the UK was Marathon. They changed it in the early 1990s to match up with the American brand which confused us over here trying to work out why our confectionary was changing name. Don’t get me started on Opal Fruits. Although we have come to embrace Snickers, I grew up on the name Marathon and have a lot of nostalgia for it, so when I heard there was a limited edition run of Marathon bars at Morrisons I went off to find myself a pack. It has been thirty years! Gosh I’m old.

For comparisons sake I also bought a multipack of Snickers so I could compare and contrast how the recipe and flavours had changed over the years. I thought maybe these bars would be bigger too, as Marathon bars always seemed bigger than Snickers bars, but I’m not sure if that is just my perception. I think they had a slogan about the size being something like ‘the biggest and the best’, long before the days of worrying about portion control. The Marathon and Snickers I bought were all the same size anyway. I got them home and immediately spotted the the calories per bar are identical on the Snickers and the Marathon bars which was suspicious, and then I read the ingredients on both packets and guess what, they are the same. These are a retro version in packaging only, they just wrote Marathon across the usual Snickers bars wrapper. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn’t this. Oh well technically you can now buy a pack of Marathon bars at Morrisons, just don’t go expecting a retro recipe or any changes to the chocolate. This is not a taste of the past.

New Snickers Crisp (WH Smiths) By @Cinabar

The thing about commuting is that almost every mainline train station has a branch of WH Smiths so I walk passed their displays sometimes twice daily. It was from here that I spotted the offer shelf with two of the new Snickers Crisp bars at £1.50, so I nipped into the shop and picked them up before jamming myself into yet another delayed sardine can of a train. At least I knew I had chocolate to look forward to once I got home.

First thing to note is that the Snickers Crisp bars does still contain nuts, they haven’t replaced the nuts they have mixed the peanuts with puffed rice to add extra crispiness. Also I was convinced that these bars had become broken in my bag on my journey but realised once I was home that they are actually in two bite size pieces. I’d say this was good for portion control, but I ate a whole bars worth (both pieces) in one sitting, so it don’t make much of a difference to me.
As a fan of textures these bars were perfect for me, having the more solid nuts and the crispy pieces made each mouthful very satisfying to eat. The caramel was lovely and sweet and it still tasted very much like a Snickers, just with added interest in the texture. I was very pleased there was still plenty of salty nutty flavour as for me this the hallmark of a Snickers bar, and as someone who loves chocolate and nuts the reason I’d choose it. This is a very enjoyable alternative that keeps true to the original, just with more crunch.

Limited Edition Snickers White (W H Smiths) By @Cinabar

I think white chocolate is going to a big trend for 2019, I have already heard snippets of various new limited editions of chocolate bars coming out in white, and frankly I can’t wait. White Cadbury Creme Eggs may be near impossible to find, but this new bar was easy, just sitting on the shelf at WH Smith in the train station were I commute. The new bar is a Limited Edition Snickers White, and I had to buy two as they were on offer… so they practically forced me. :-D
The bar has quite a pale chocolate colour, but the white chocolate on the Snickers is still quite thick. I gave it the taste test and found it to still be a very substantial bar. The white chocolate is sweet, but it adds a lovely creaminess to the Snickers, that works with the peanuts and caramel. The peanut is still the dominant flavour, as it should be, but that touch of saltiness with the white chocolate adds a new level to the sweet and savoury mix that I thoroughly enjoyed. I have to say I am glad I bought two of these bars because this combination works ever so well, it is one to try even if you aren’t that much of a white chocolate fan just because the creamy sweetness of the chocolate goes so well with nuts that it isn’t too strong at all. I hope this bar hangs around for a while, and that the trend for white chocolate continues. My next white chocolate item to search for is the new Limited Edition White Twix, I can’t wait!

Snickers Protein (@NLi10)

I was visiting friends the other day and one pointed these bars out in his local paper shop. I'd not seen them out and about (initially these were Amazon exclusive) so picked it and the Mars version up to review.  After finding the bill for both was £3.90 I regretted it somewhat - surely it's a pound for something like this!

Inside it looks a bit like a Snickers that someone forgot to put all the ingredients in.

When you bite into it it's got the odd peanut, but frankly nothing close to what I'm after! It's basically a Milky Way that they didn't whip as much, with a few peanuts inside. It smells like a Snickers which now has me questioning whether that is just artificially added here, or on the normal bars too. Interesting.

You get 18g of protein for your money, which is all from milk derivatives just as whey. A bag of mixed nuts requires you to eat 100g to get 18g of protein, but provides you with 500 Kcal compared to the 200 Kcal in the 50g bar here. I'm guessing the nuts are more nutritious generally too. I think it depends on your goals. If you want to get as much protein per calorie as possible and you want that protein to mysteriously smell like a Snickers then this is the choice. If you want to pay less, get more nutrients per calorie (I'm guessing) and don't mind that it just tastes of nuts then I think the bag of nuts option would be better.

It's not terrible, it's just a bit of bad science space food.

Dark Snickers Rockin Nut Road (@GobstoppersUK) [By @Cinabar]

I already wrote about the fantastic Birthday Cake Flipz that we picked up from Gobstoppers in the Birmingham Bullring, but while we were there we also purchased a couple of imported Rockin Nut Road Dark Snickers.
This bar appealed to me because of its promise of textures, and it delivered. I love a mix of textures, soft and crunchy mixed together it just something that works for me, and this bar had it all. The bar is like a Snickers except for three changes; there is dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate, the bar contains almonds in the caramel and the major change is the soft nougat is actually a firm dense marshmallow! Such fun! I know the picture doesn’t show any almonds but there were plenty, I just managed to catch the photograph at an odd point.
The bar was perfect for me, I immediately loved the changes in texture with every bite. The almonds were crunchy, like they’d been toasted and the caramel wonderfully gooey. The marshmallow was full of vanilla flavour, and the soft but firm nature of it really added to the bar. I liked the darker chocolate with the lighter flavour of the marshmallow, the contrast worked well. It was a very tasty bar and I think one that would go down really well here in the UK if it got released. For the minute though I’m reliant on import shops, but a trip to Gobstoppers is never a bad thing!

New Limited Edition Snickers & Hazelnut [UK Bar] (Post Office) [By @Cinabar]

I spotted this Limited Edition Snickers and Hazelnut bar in our post office, which is not a place I normally associate with Foodstuff Finds, but I always have my eyes open just in case. It is nice to see a new Snickers edition that is actually a bit different with a new component, Snickers and Hazelnut. We seem to have had a few new bars where they have had just “more choc” or “more nuts” and not really played about with the ingredients too much. I accept changing the type of nut might not seem revolutionary, but it was enough to gain my interest as I do like my nuts and chocolate.
I cut the bar open and took a look inside, I had to admit it did look quite similar to the regular peanut edition snickers. The soft nougat was present and there was plenty of caramel too. I couldn’t tell there was a difference in the nuts based just on appearance.
Taste wise the change of nuts was clearly noticeable. The hazelnut has a stronger more wholesome taste, which was a good addition to the bar. There was still a slight hint of saltiness, which gave it that authentic Snickers like flavour. Obviously the carmael and nougat remained unchanged.
All in all I like this version of the Snickers bar a lot, I do love peanuts, but hazelnuts are a favourite too. If you combine them with the nougat and caramel you get a slightly posher version of a Snickers, that gets the thumbs up from me.

Snickers Shake [By @cinabar]

One of my favourite food combinations in the world is peanut (or peanut butter) and chocolate. So when I found out about the new Snickers Shake, Spectre stood aside and let me try this one out. He drinks more milkshakes than me, but Snickers is more my territory.
I gave the bottle a good shake before taking my first sip. This milkshake is of quite a thin consistency, thicker than milk, but still thin enough to be enjoyed through the sports cap that comes with it. The predominant flavour is peanut, sweetened peanut at that, but mainly peanut. There is a chocolaty aftertaste, and the flavour develops into a creamy cocoa flavour towards the end of each sip. The result of a chocolate and peanut shakes is remarkably nice, and I pretty much hogged the whole bottle to myself. Spectre was allowed the odd sip, but this really is more my kind of thing!
The back of the bottle describes the product as “peanut and chocolate milk drink” and this description is spot on. The peanut is the main flavour, not the chocolate and that’s the part where it seems to not be quite on the same wavelength of an actual Snickers. For me the bar has the chocolate as the main flavour, followed by the peanut and some very distinct sweet flavours of caramel and nougat that don’t seem to develop in this drink.
I don’t want to be negative though, I loved every sip of it. It’s something I’ll buy again and would love to have as a treat on a hot day. However I know there are some Snickers aficionados who read this blog who would note that the formula doesn’t quite match the bar flavour. Seriously though if you have a place in your heart for peanut and chocolate this drink will make you smile.
