Peelers Gummy Peach Peelable Sweets (B&M) By @SpectreUK

Peelers Gummy Peach Peelable Sweets

I have no idea why you would have peelable sweets. These Peelers Gummy Peach Peelable sweets were recommended to us by a friend who also sells at the comic cons.

Peelers Gummy Peach Peelable Sweets

They are made with real fruit juice, which is something I like in sweets, with added sugar and sweeteners. Being made with real fruit juice makes me feel like I'm at least trying to be good, whilst eating something naughty.

Peelers Gummy Peach Peelable Sweets

On opening the resealable packet these Peelers Gummy Peach sweets had a half peach shape. I don't really get the peelable quality of these sweets, as on trying it was really messy. Taste wise though these Peelers Peach gummies were spot on. They had a squidgy texture and a lovely fruity peach flavour, not too sweet, in fact just right.

Information on the packet; The 65g bag has 317 calories, with 0.2g of fat, 55g of sugar, and 0.03g of salt. Please see photograph for the ingredients.

Nestlé Munchies Orange (Ocado) By @Cinabar

Nestlé Munchies Orange

There’s another new flavour from Munchies on the shelves. This time it’s Nestlé Munchies Orange, and since it has been a while since the last fruity variety, I was keen to give these a try. The packaging isn’t very different from the regular version, just the word Orange added with no major design changes.

I opened up the bag by tearing where instructed, and as always, I was disappointed that so few products these days have those handy resealable stickers that used to be popular. I didn’t want to eat the whole lot in one go, but with the bag left wide open, it felt like an invitation to do just that.

I took in the aroma, but there wasn’t much to it, just a standard chocolate scent. I had expected the orange to come through at this stage. However, as soon as I bit into one, the flavour kicked in. There was loads of zesty goodness. The usual Munchies mix of textures, crunchy biscuit, gooey caramel and smooth milk chocolate, was there, but the burst of orange in the caramel was an absolute delight. Sweet, fruity and with the perfect citrus balance, it made these dangerously moreish.

I loved them, ate far too many and had to resort to a paperclip to close the bag before I demolished the lot.

Fry’s Turkish Delight Orange Flavour (Asda) – By @Cinabar

Fry’s Turkish Delight Orange Flavour

Turkish Delight isn’t everyone’s first choice for a sweet treat, but I have a soft spot for it. I always look forward to indulging at Christmas, when it comes coated in so much icing sugar that it ends up everywhere. It is still so delicious that I don’t mind the mess. For a quicker, more affordable snack, Fry’s Turkish Delight is a favourite of mine. Their bars are always coated in milk chocolate, which is another big win.

Now there is a new addition to the range: Fry’s Turkish Delight Orange Flavour.

Fry’s Turkish Delight Orange Flavour

The multipack contains three bars, each wrapped in bright orange packaging. I opened one and gave it a try. The texture is just like the original, with a soft, jelly-like centre and a solid chocolate coating that cracks as you bite in. The filling has a delicate orange flavour, not sharp like the lemon variety available at Christmas, but sweet and soothing. If you enjoy orange cream chocolates, this will be right up your street, even if you don’t usually go for Turkish Delight.

Dylan's House Blend Coffee roasted by Poblado Coffi [@NLi10]

Local tea and coffee is a weird one, on one hand it's great to have something tuned to the local water and supporting the local area - but on the other hand it's all from thousands of miles away!

Here we have a great example - they beans are shipped to Wales and the local company makes local coffee blended exactly to the restaurants requirements.  Can't argue with that!

Brazil, Guatemala & Ugandan beans - but with it's date of birth on the bag it's all pretty fresh too

And it all smells amazing - and it isn't perfectly homogenous too which I love - it feels like it was crafted instead of being manufactured.

And it makes a good cup of coffee - just a shade too dark for my taste, but I can tune some of that out with a dash of milk, macchiato style.

I'm glad I picked this up as it'll be a great pick me up for work days

And before we went in the shop we had the local food from local ingredients in the restaurant in Conwy - which was fantastically luxurious and a lovely way to recharge after going round the castle for hours in the wind.

Cornish Best Ale (Morrisons) By @SpectreUK

Cornish Best Ale

The beach scene on the front of the bottle of this Cornish Best Ale helped me pick my dinner tonight. I have jumbo fish fingers, so I'm hoping this session ale will wash them down well.

At 3.4% in volume Cornish Best Ale was produced by St. Austell Brewery. I was very happy to read that this beer has rye in its ingredients, as well as malted barley, oats, and hops. The oats and malted barley should give it a healthy hearty biscuit flavour, with added spice from the rye.

On opening the bottle there were lovely biscuit and toffee aromas from the reddish brown beer inside. There was a mild herbal bitterness from the hops, coupled with a good spiciness from the rye, with a little fruitiness, as well as biscuit flavours with toffee like sweetness into the aftertaste. Gorgeous, cheers.

Seabrook Authentic Fish and Chips Crisps (Morrisons) By @Cinabar

Seabrook Authentic Fish and Chips Crisps

These are the other new flavour that has been brought out by Seabrook to celebrate Bradford becoming City of Culture 2025. The first ones we tried were Seabrook Authentic Chicken Curry Crisps, which had a lovely spicy kick. Here we have another favourite takeaway flavour, Seabrook Authentic Fish and Chips Crisps.

I do not think there are enough fish-flavoured crisps. I am not including prawn cocktail, as that is more about the sauce than the prawns, but I do like Scampi Fries when I can find them.

I opened the bag and found some pale-looking crisps inside. They had the advantage of having nice crinkles to collect plenty of seasoning. The aroma was mostly salty. I gave one a try and found it to be rather nice. I could pick up on a gentle batter taste, then some salt and a little fish. The flavour was there, but it was a little mild. They are delicate, but I still really enjoyed the taste and thought they did a good job of recreating that fish and chips feel. The curry crisps they released were very full-on and not shy on flavour at all. It is a shame they did not turn the volume up on these ones, as that would have made them perfect.

Kelloggs Oaties Choco Crunch [@NLi10]

Kellogs make a lot of high sugar breakfast cereals, but they also do some healthier ones (usually based around fibre).  This is somewhere between the two - with a few vitamins thrown in for good measure!

They are 55% oat, but still contain wheat, maize and malted wheat as we crave the gluten

They are relatively low in sugar and fat compared to the kid focused cereals, but it's there - you won't need to sprinkle sugar on this one.

As a bowl (tiny holiday caravan bowls) it looks good - if not a bit uniform.  It does have a good scent of chocolate

And it just about turns the (almond) milk chocolatey

The crunch is good, and the sweetness is fine, but overall this is an oaty serious cereal with a little bit of fun added in.  I don't think anyone will go wow over it, but as a no-thought reasonably healthy start to the day it works well.

Walkers Smokin’ BBQ Sauce flavour crisps (Morrisons) By @SpectreUK

Walkers Smokin’ BBQ Sauce flavour crisps

I like a lot of different sauces. I'm not going to list them all, as there is so many. My favourite sauce is probably BBQ, I say probably, it's my go to sauce I have with pretty much everything.

So, these Walkers Smokin' BBQ Sauce flavour crisps should go down rather well accompanying my chicken, hot sauce and red pepper sandwich for lunch.

Walkers Smokin’ BBQ Sauce flavour crisps

On opening the bag there was a sweet and smokey aroma to the reddened crisps inside. On first crunchy taste Walkers Smokin' BBQ Sauce flavour crisps are certainly smokey and with a luscious sweetness following into the aftertaste. Very nice indeed. I'll have to have these in regularly.

Information on the packet; Each 25g bag contains 128 calories, 7.3g of fat, 0.7g of sugar, and 0.28g of salt. Suitable for Vegetarians, see photograph for the ingredients.

Seabrook Authentic Chicken Curry Crisps (Morrisons) By @Cinabar

Seabrook Authentic Chicken Curry Crisps

When Seabrook announces a new flavour of their crisps in sharing bags, I always get excited. The latest range celebrates Bradford becoming City of Culture 2025. They have chosen flavours from the area and turned them into new crisps. From the branding on the bag, these appear to be exclusive to Morrisons.

First up is Authentic Chicken Curry. At first glance, I thought the flavour sounded a bit generic. Why not take a specific type of curry and go all in with that? Why has no one made Rogan Josh crisps yet? I love a good curry, so I was still keen to give these a try.

We opened the bag and poured them into a sharing bowl. I was impressed by the complex and aromatic smell. These crisps are thick cut and crinkle cut, giving plenty of room for all the seasoning. I took a bite and loved the snappy crunch. The flavours of chicken and spice were really strong, with paprika, onion and ginger shining through. There was plenty of chilli, and the crisps had a proper kick, which was wonderful. Some crisps claim to be spicy but then play it safe with just a little bit of heat. These were bold, making sure my mouth was tingling with spices.

They were seriously moreish. The more you ate, the more you wanted. If you stopped for too long, the chilli seemed to turn up the heat even more.

Wow, Bradford, if these Seabrook Authentic Chicken Curry Crisps are anything to go by, I will make sure to pop by one of your curry houses.

Bounty Crispy Rolls (Asda) – By @Cinabar

Bounty Crispy Rolls

Bounty, rather like Marmite, tends to divide opinion. I personally love it. I like the combination of chocolate and coconut, and even that firm but soft grainy texture that some people dislike works for me.

Here we have a new bar from Bounty, the Bounty Crispy Rolls. It is nice to see something new from Bounty. This is a lighter snack, with 61 calories per stick, so 122 for both if you eat them at the same time, like me.

They consist of Bounty coconut encased in a wafer, coated in milk chocolate, and finished with a dusting of coconut. This meant there were bits in the packet when it opened, but thankfully not too many.

I gave the chocolate stick a try and found it to be pleasant rather than anything special. It does not have the same satisfying Bounty feel of biting into a full-size bar. I liked the crispy texture from the wafer, which was nice and crunchy before softening with the coconut filling. The flavour, however, did not have enough coconut. The ratios seem different, and that wonderful coconut kick just was not as strong. The chocolate was more prominent, which was fine, but something else in the taste, perhaps the wafer, added an edge that distracted from the coconut goodness and made these a bit mediocre.

They were okay, but they should have been so much better. I love a Bounty bar, and although I like the idea of a lower-calorie treat, I think I will stick to the original. Also, Bounty, if you are considering bringing out something new, how about bringing back the red Bounty with dark chocolate? Give the people what they want.

Biscolata MOOD - Caramel Macchiato Biscuits [@NLi10]

We are on holiday in a little caravan park in Talacre, Wales at the moment but I've not found much of the local treats we usually spot when here - but I have found some twists on familiar friends

This is essentially a coffee & biscoff twist on the existing biscuit-and-goo formula we get at home, but with a funky brand to go with the icons now, and actually in English instead of the import we have

MOOD means look at the icon and tell your fortune basically

They have them all on the side - my first two were 'dance frantically'. I shall not be doing that.

Suitable for vegetarians, and with no actual coffee suitable for kids too. Made in Turkey for a company in Bromsgrove which is local to home - they have come a long way!

The prints seem sharp

And the gooey bits are never gooey - but if you eat them somewhere warm you can pretend.

As before, these are like cat treats for humans and you could easily dissapear a tub of these without meaning to.  I'm aiming for these to last all week - see how that one goes!

Genius Craft Lager (Morrisons) By @SpectreUK

Genius Craft Lager

I have roasted chicken tonight. You may think that's sound a bit dull. In fact a week or so ago I'd have agreed with you. Then we found roast in the bag chicken. One whole chicken roasted in a bag. I have no idea how long this has been a thing, but it's revolutionised chicken for me.

The first roast in the bag chicken I had was probably the best whole chicken I've ever eaten. Okay, so I gave Cinabar a leg or two, but it was pretty whole after that, and was easily the juiciest tastiest most succulent chicken I've ever torn off the bone like a Viking.

What's this got to do with Genius Craft Lager, you are possibly thinking? Well, asides the fact that I'm going to use a can of it to wash my roast in the bag chicken down tonight, it also sounds like a great idea.

This 3% in volume lager by Genius Brewing is only 89 calories. I count calories for my diet, so I can now pack in more chicken, thickly buttered baked bread, salad and picky bits into my main meal.

On opening the can there was no fizz to speak of. That gave me some cause for concern, as usually a lager has a bit of fizz. This light golden Genius Craft Lager did pour with a decent head though. There was Pilsner malt in the aroma, with crisp herbal hops following. On taste the smell was pretty much the same, though in reverse, with crisp herbal hops to begin with, followed by sweet Pilsner into the aftertaste. Very nice.

The Shamrock Shake (McDonald's) By @Cinabar

The Shamrock Shake (McDonald's)

Monday is St Patrick’s Day, a time to celebrate Ireland’s patron saint. McDonald's contribution is the new Shamrock Shake, a milkshake inspired by the lucky Irish shamrock. It is green in colour, but thankfully not shamrock flavoured. That would probably just taste leafy. This new drink is peppermint, and I couldn’t resist picking one up as a Friday treat.

When the milkshake arrived, I could see that it was green, but only mildly so. A brighter shade might have put me off. I gave it a taste and found it sweet and very minty. I had expected something similar to mint choc chip ice cream, but without the chocolate, all that remained was intense sweetness and mint. I really liked it and found it refreshing, but I do love mint. I also have a sweet tooth, so this worked well for me, though I can imagine it being a bit much for some.

As much as I enjoyed the Shamrock Shake, it doesn’t beat the limited-edition blueberry Grimace Shake. Still, it is worth trying, and don’t forget to raise a glass (or a cardboard cup) to St Patrick.

Sainsbury's Custard Cream Twists - Banoffee Version [@NLi10]

The humble custard cream often gets a few variations.  At its simplest it's two biscuits with some vanilla gunk in between. At its most complicated and deluxe it's a Viennese Whirl.

Here we see Sainsbury's trying a few new things - apparently there are 4 varieties - but here we have the Banoffee.

Opening it they smell like the worrying trend of Biscoff Everything.

But - it says it's toffee and banana...

And the first taste is totally the mysterious extinct banana flavour - and it works well.  The toffee part is there and does come through.  In fact after a couple of biscuits the banana side is less noticable and it tastes like a more biscuity proposition.

I wasn't sure these would be that good - but they work - and i'm interested in what's to come.

Mikybar & Rowntree’s Jelly & Ice Cream (Asda) By @SpectreUK

Mikybar & Rowntree’s Jelly & Ice Cream

Personally I believe there are two types of people, those that mix sauces in a main meal, such as curry's, or mix puddings, such as jelly and ice cream, and those that don't mix and would prefer separate plates or bowls. The same applies in sweets, I guess. There are a few yoghurt coated sweets on the market. So, when I saw these Milkybar & Rowntree's Jelly & Ice Cream that's what I figured I'd be getting when I opened the packet.

In fact they aren't quite Jelly and Ice Cream, the back of the packet described them as "A delicious mix of giant white chocolate pieces and juicy sweets made with real juice", and they are just Milkybar large white chocolate buttons and also small jelly sweets like midget gems.

Mikybar & Rowntree’s Jelly & Ice Cream

The Rowntree's midget gem type gummy flavours were; strawberry, blackcurrant, orange, lime, and lemon. Of course, being from Rowntree's, they had good fruity flavours, however, being of a certain age, they were quite chewy, and really got stuck in my old teeth. The Milkybar large white chocolate buttons - were very nice indeed, but for some reason were not so exciting.

This collaboration between Rowntree's and Nestle Milkybar sounds like it should have been an interesting idea, and even though there was a "Love To Share" icon on the packet, I did scoff the lot in one sitting. I just wish I'd left enough calories to have these Milkybar & Rowntree's Jelly & Ice Cream with a pot of ice cream too.

Information on the packet; The 95g bag has 102 calories per 15 sweets, 3.6g of fat, 11.5g of sugar, and 0.07g of salt. Suitable for vegetarians, please see photograph for the ingredients.

Cadbury Oreo White Eggs (Asda) – By @Cinabar

Cadbury Oreo White Eggs

I remember when Cadbury’s multipacks of chocolate eggs always contained six, but now five is the new six, that’s shrinkflation for you. Anyway, these aren’t your standard Cadbury Creme Eggs; they’re Cadbury Oreo White Eggs. Cadbury has combined its Oreo brand with the growing popularity of white chocolate, and my sweet tooth is all for it.

Cadbury Oreo White Eggs

The eggs have the same mould as Creme Eggs, and once unwrapped, you can see the signature star on the side of the white chocolate shell. I took a bite, and the first thing I noticed was how lovely and thick the white chocolate was. It’s sweet, creamy, and absolutely delicious.

The fondant inside is light, sweet, and creamy, with a nice vanilla flavour. It’s packed with Oreo crumbs, which add a fantastic texture, light and crispy. I think that’s why I ended up loving these so much. They might be a bit too sweet for some, but for me, they were the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.

Marvel Kinder Egg Maxi (Asda) By @Cinabar

Marvel Kinder Egg Maxi

I bought myself a giant Kinder Egg, and I have no regrets. I love Kinder Eggs, so when I spotted this Kinder Egg Maxi in Asda, I inexplicably wanted it. The child in me loves the daft toy, and the adult with a sweet tooth enjoys the super-sweet chocolate. The next time we were in Asda, I popped one in my basket and treated myself.

Marvel Kinder Egg Maxi

I didn’t even bother waiting until Easter to open it. I just couldn’t resist. I convinced myself that this wasn’t an Easter egg, just a large regular Kinder Egg, so there was no issue opening it straight away.

These Kinder Egg Maxi editions contain Marvel toys, with several to collect. I unwrapped mine and was pleased to see the usual yellow capsule inside, just in giant form. The chocolate was the usual sweet Kinder blend: milk chocolate lined with white. I love the flavour, it is sweet and soothing.

Marvel Kinder Egg Maxi

Inside the capsule, I found my toy to build. Captain Marvel! I put her together and even got a bracelet too. Now, I’m an adult, but one thing you should know about me is that I have freakishly small wrists. So, believe it or not, the tiny bracelet included with the toy actually fit me! I shall wear it with pride at my next Comic Con.
