This Soreen Sticky Toffee Loaf was a sticky toffee flavoured loaf with dates and toffee flavoured pieces. It was described as "the perfect pudding loaf" on the packet. It also says to 'try me warm' and the image shows custard so that is how we decided to try it.
For cooking instructions the packet suggested to toast the loaf under the grill. We couldn't find instructions on the packet on how to warm up the cake in the microwave, so we decided to microwave it for 60 seconds. We cut pieces before microwaving, and that was difficult enough with a really sharp knife, we were serving it with spoons, so figured this could be interesting.
So, first off 60 seconds in the microwave. It smelt lovely at this point. It wasn't oozy with toffee, and had no accompanying toffee sauce packet. Then we heated custard in the microwave. And finally heated the loaf again for another 30 seconds before serving. It smelt really good. It was starting to get a bit squidgy, with a nice soft texture. My spoon did go through it, and it was easy to eat. It was good and tasty. It went very well heated up with the custard on top.
This Soreen Sticky Toffee Loaf wasn't overly sweet, but it was still enjoyable. Having said that there wasn't a lot of sugar or fat in the ingredients so this was a healthier Sticky Toffee Pudding version. I'd probably have this again, but for another 100 or so calories, I could have had a really oozy indulgent Sticky Toffee Pudding instead.
Information on the packet: One fifth of the cake (52g) is 153 calories, 1g of fat, 8.2g of sugar and 0.27g salt. Vegan friendly and a good source of fibre. Please see photograph for the ingredients.
