What are Paratha, and how do we cook them at home? (@NLi10)

 I was told that we had dinner provided for us by our guests, and that my paratha was in the freezer.  And for once - I had no idea what this was!  

With a name that sounds suspiciously like a late generation Pokémon, paratha are a 'traditional South Asian Flatbread' that not only looks pretty fun, but also cooks from frozen.

I'd been given it to go with a dahl.

It's a pancake then?

Looks like it - lets fry it up!  Keep flipping to stop it sticking, and give it a pat to keep it cooking evenly.

Its getting a little crispier... and it smells of BUTTER

Its really puffed up! And its amazing.  It's somewhere between naan and a potato cake, even though there are no potatoes in this! 

So fantastic, and a great alternative to some of the sides we usually have.  maybe not diet friendly (so much butter) but so yummy.

Key Lime Pie Kit Kat (GB Gifts) By @SpectreUK

I have a confession that I haven't eaten a Key Lime Pie before. I tried a pot of ready made desert some years ago that was supposed to taste like Key Lime Pie and I really liked it, but I suspect that it wasn't like a real one.

I was going to have a real 'authentic' Key Lime Pie at an American style restaurant some years ago, but the place burnt down (no really) just before we ate there, and after they rebuilt it, they haven't put it back on the menu. I don't think making the Key Lime Pie burnt the restaurant down though! Well, at least I hope not…

I also haven't had a Kit Kat for a while. I know there are possibly millions of flavours of Kit Kat's available now, but I'm boring and I usually go for the original. This Key Lime Pie Kit Kat is a step away from the norm for me. Mainly because I'm so intrigued as to how it's going to taste like a Key Lime Pie in a chocolate wafer bar.

As you can see from the photograph on opening the wrapper the four Kit Kat sticks were a lime green and white chocolate colour. There was a decent smell of lime from the bar. This Key Lime Pie Kit Kat had a lime cheesecake flavour to it with white chocolate creaminess to follow mixing well with the wafers inside. I rather enjoyed this Kit Kat as it went well with a low calorie vanilla ice cream as an accompaniment. I'd definitely have one of these again.

Muller Light Strawberry Daiquiri Yoghurt (Iceland) By @Cinabar

I think I may have become a bit sceptical over the years and as such when I bought these Muller Light Strawberry Daiquiri Yoghurts I thought to myself oh wow, an interesting way to packaging up a regular strawberry yoghurt and market it with a summer twist. Yes I know, I should have more faith.

 

I had one of the yoghurts as a lunchtime treat, they are part of the Muller Light range so lower in calorie and it is nice to have something sweet after a sandwich which doesn’t come with too much guilt. The yoghurt is pink and looks much like a regular strawberry yoghurt but I’m pleased to say the flavour was nicely different. I could pick up on the flavour of lime which was really nice with it, it made it a little sourer but refreshing in the muggy weather. There was still plenty of strawberry and fruit too in the yoghurt. I was at first disappointed that all the flavours were the same in the multipack as many new Muller varieties come in mixed packs, but by the end of the yoghurt I was looking forward to the next one. This Muller Light Strawberry Daiquiri Yoghurt is a nice twist on a standard flavour with the cocktail element and nicely done with the added lime.

Fluffy Stuff – Birthday Cake Cotton Candy (GB Gifts) By @Cinabar

There are certain sweets that make me feel like a child, popping candy is one of these but the other is candy floss (or as the Americans say Cotton Candy). I suppose my love of candy floss comes from the memories of being at fun fairs or trips to Wales and having a bag to eat as a treat. I have discovered though that the American’s have gone the extra mile with their candy floss and have all sorts of flavoured versions. I picked up this bag of Fluffy Stuff Birthday Cake Cotton Candy from an import shop.

Birthday Cake is a very much on trend flavour and I was curious to see how it translated to this product given that a substantial part of both flavours is just sugar. Inside the bag there were two colours of cotton candy, pink and white and the colours were not dissimilar looking to bag of cotton wool I have upstairs…. Thankfully this tasted a lot better!

The flavour was surprisingly accurate when it came to birthday cake, it was sweet and creamy with lots of vanilla. The sugary flavour tasted like cake batter and frosting, and I was rather impressed. I hadn’t expected so much depth to the sweet flavour, but it worked, while still maintaining the sugary goodness. The texture was of course melt in the mouth and it was still fun to eat. I will have to investigate what other flavours are available.

Tago Hazelnut Creme Wafer Rolls (@nli10)

Recently the little shop by work has been very keen to sell me a variety of wafer rolls - having them prominently on the counter for the lunch time rush.  I don’t remember seeing the brand Tago - it looks very Euro.

 

As they were affordable at 89p and very sharable I thought I’d oblige.

There’s barely anything to them! And these appear to be from Poland - nice!

They are a little crumbly - but they look glorious.

And the filling is pretty generous too - I’d worried it would be a solid layer. The flavours do taste like popular hazelnut spreads and the outer is just crispy enough.  While not the M&S butter version, these are a decent treat - and one where you won’t sit and eat the box solo…
