Cookie Queen @ Porthleven Food Fest (and your house too!) [@NLi10]

I deliberately left one shop out of the Porthleven Food Festival review last week because it wasn't for eating on the day - it was for taking back to the lodge and savouring another day.

Look at these magnificent Cookie Sandwiches!

 We ate our lunch on a concrete bollard table thing opposite this stall.  It was very popular with the locals and had so many wonderful options that I knew I'd be taking a few home.  The picture at the top was my partners Banoffee Cookie Sandwich - she really liked it.

I'd have zoomed in more to take a picture of the range, but I forgot to get a better one when I didn't have a steak wrap in one hand.

And here we see my lemon cookie sandwich (naughtily being eaten at the excellent Hog & Hedge services - in fairness we did get stuff there both on the way down and back).

It was just the right balance of sharp and fruity, and the cookies were British enough to have lovely natural flavours too.

And the leaflet revealed a big secret - they deliver!!

So while this is a little indulgent to order for yourself (although they do keep 2 weeks) it's a cool thing to do as a birthday thing to take to work, or just to get delivered for relatives.

It's not a common thing to find a baked treat that you can actually recommend UK wide so it's quite cool that these are so good.

Chaiiwala Birmingham - delivering lunch for the busy workers - Paratha & Chai (@NLi10)

Well - I'm about to go from having had no Paratha to having 2 different ones in the same week!

Work suggested that instead of having pizza this week that we should try Chaiiwala on the Soho Road - and I was happy to join in.

A little later my tray appeared!

Along with the meal you get a tea.  Very milky and very fragrant with far too much sweetness. It was awesome! Also one of our staff members didn't like it so I got to drink two.

Here we have a tomato & masala omelette, two paratha and my chosen side of Chana.

Nothing here was too spicy for me, and the flavours balanced each other well.  I cheated by using cutlery, but did mop up the dip with my paratha.  I found these to be a little more tough than the hope fried ones, but I think that's due to travel and the fact that I ate mine immediately.  I'd never considered mixing masala into omelettes before so that was a lovely surprise!

Overall I'd have this again, but I'd try other things on the menu like the layered wraps and pudding paratha.

We used Uber eats for the delivery.

Domino's 2-4-Tuesdays - Catalan Chicken & Chorizo Pizza (by @NLi10)

We like Pizza, we like special offers.  So - last Tuesday we decided to do Domino's Two For Tuesday and get two pizzas delivered for the price of one! I mean it's still £19 which seems a lot, but we did go for the large ones.  I chose the Catalan Chicken & Chorizo which has lots of chicken, with a sour cream and paprika drizzle on top - but will it look like it's photo?

We had a starter of those Iberian Olives we reviewed the other week - while a little squishy and very oily then are very nice!  I'd still prefer them without stones.

And in a reasonable amount of time they arrived!

That's close enough to the picture for a thumbs up from me.  The flavours were great and while I thought it may be too much for one it wasn't. I even had a pudding too.

You could taste the chicken and the textures were quite fun too.  The Chorizo was thick enough that I belived they hadn't just slipped cheaper peproni on there and the Italian base was pretty classy too.

All in all I'm happy for £9.50 each delivered and this may tempt me away from our usual Papa Johns more often than I'd thought.

Sushido, Sutton Coldfield UK @sushidouk @NLi10

When thinking of great Japanese food Sutton Coldfield is not the first place that springs to mind.  At one of our many (many) games nights it was suggested that we'd all like Japanese food and there wasn't a reasonable option on the chosen food app.  What to do! One of the group remembered that a restaurant that he'd always fancied when driving past had a big sign up saying 'we are now online for deliveries' or similar and a quick Google later we found them and ordered away!

They warned us that they could take an hour, but delivered in around 40 -  a rarity that other local places could take note of! And not only that, the food was really well packaged and came with chopsticks and sauces ready to be mixed to eat.

Naturally I had the Katsu Chicken Curry to put them head to head with Birmingham favourites Yakinori (who win all kinds of awards with this, their signature dish).  The quality was certainly close and I'd have to try the restaurant to get a perfect comparison but I think the Yakinori version edges it.  The fact that I'm not able to dismiss the SUSHIDO version instantly speaks volumes to the quality though, and everything here was similarly good.  And at £60 for 4 people including sides it was very reasonably priced.

It's a veritable banquet and the four of us had more than enough to go around.

The sushi had survived the trip well and I am told that the wasabi was particularly potent!  As the location of the restaurant makes it hard for us to just pop in (which is a shame as I think they'd wow us in person). I know we will be certainly ordering from here again and probably even having extra games nights locally as an excuse to try more of the menu.

A victory for small businesses with easy to Google names and 'We Deliver' signs!

Bonus mini review: the host had some Kikkoman brand Plum Wine, which oddly I'd not had before.  It was very warming and had a nice deep flavour - but I'll stick to soft drinks (and large quantities of their soy sauce!).
