Cadbury has released a few new flavours of Eclairs in recent months. I reviewed the orange edition recently and thought they were fab. A friend at work let me try a hazelnut and oh my was it good. I should have gone the full hog with them and taken a piccie and blogged about them, but they weren’t my sweets and it was a work thing, so a bit awkward. Trust me though, the hazelnut edition are worth picking up!
Their latest Eclair doesn’t quite seem to be an eclair to me. The definition for this type of sweet, in my head at least, is a firm caramel case with a chocolatey filling. These have a chocolate shell, with a soft caramel filled with liquid chocolate. As nice as that sounds they do seem distanced from being a traditional Eclair.
I gave one a try, and as you eat them the chocolate shell crumbles a little as it feel clumsy stuck to the gooey carmel centre. Their caramel centre was soft enough to make me want to chew, but a little firm and too sticky to be pleasant. It was getting stuck in my teeth, and didn’t feel velvety like the name suggested. The chocolate centre was lost, and to be honest this just wasn't my cup of tea.
To be fair, I’d never go for the semi solid caramels in chocolate boxes for the same reason, I prefer either a solid toffee to suck or a liquid caramel which bursts flavour, so it's no wonder these weren’t my favourites. I still love the orange and hazelnut version, and of course I have a place in my heart for the original edition.

These are pretty much the same as "Milka Toffees" that are available in Europe (I reviewed them here: http://kevssnackreviews.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/milka-toffees-hazelnut-centres.html). A rather lazy product extension from Cadbury if you ask me!
