Costa Hot Chocolate - At Home (Tesco) By @Cinabar

Costa Hot Chocolate - At Home

I’m not going to apologise for another hot chocolate post. It is cold outside and let's face it, we all need a bit of comfort right now. I spotted this tin of Costa Hot Chocolate, from the coffee shop chain, but for the home market and thought I’d give it a try. The can is smart and promises a rich creamy drink.

This hot chocolate is made with hot milk. I opened up the can and made a mug's worth using four teaspoons of the powder. It took quite a bit of mixing to get it to dissolve, there were some persistent lumps. I hate that with hot chocolate, but after I topped it with cream you couldn’t tell any more.

This is a soothing drink. The cocoa is mellow, it isn’t overly sweet and I wouldn’t say it was rich. The flavour is a creamy chocolate and I enjoyed drinking it. It had a smooth flavour, it reminded me of the in-store drink.

I liked this Costa Hot Chocolate and was really pleased that it did taste authentically like the version they serve in the shop. I think the difficulty of mixing it up with the lumps might put me off buying another can for home. It is a nice drink but there are plenty of others on the market that are tasty and melt much better into hot milk. When I go to Costa, I’m quite happy for them to make me a hot chocolate and sort out the lumps for me.
