Produced by the New Bristol Brewery this whopping 9.5% in volume Salted Caramel Popcorn Stout may blow my socks off with its ABV. By the end of it, I might not care what it tastes like. I do love strong beer though. This strong stout should go rather well as a pudding beer after my steak and chips tonight. It will wash down my Cadbury's Caramel bars, Cadbury's Crunchies, and now Crunchy Toffee Butterkist popcorn, and a low calorie pot of Jude's salted caramel ice cream on the side.
On opening the can there was a strong caramel smell from the almost black contents. There was also a hint of salt and then popcorn syrup towards the back of the aroma. On taste this Salted Caramel Popcorn Stout had a velvety caramel and roasted chocolate malt flavour to begin with, then a hint of salt and an unmistakable popcorn flavour into the aftertaste.
There was also warmth from the strength of the alcohol, so this stout went very well indeed with its complementing salted caramel, chocolate and popcorn flavours washing down my chocolate and popcorn pudding. I'll definitely have to get some more of this stout to warm me up in the autumn months.
