Marie Boxall’s Hog Roast with Sage & Onion Stuffing Crisps [Walkers] (Tesco) [By @SpectreUK]

This crisp flavour is one of three limited flavours that won a competition for crisp lover’s dream flavours. Marie Boxall was born and raised in Norfolk and loved the hog roasts at Norwich market with her family. The Hog Roast with Sage & Onion Stuffing flavouring was made with pork from Norfolk, so these crisps are not suitable for vegetarians. These crisps were made with 100% Great British potatoes, with no artificial colours or preservatives, and cooked in sun seed oil which is naturally low in saturates.

On opening the packet I could smell a strong odour of sage and onion with roast pork in the background. Pouring out the crisps onto a plate I noticed that there were a multitude of flecks of green sage on every crisp. Taste wise there was a strong flavour of sage followed by the onion and a slightly smoked roasted pork flavour afterwards. The most dominant flavours were the sage and the onion which almost completely overshadowed the pork. This didn’t make for an unpleasant flavoured packet of crisps, but I would have liked more of a pork flavour with the sage and onion stuffing in the background. Sadly I could barely taste the pork. I reckon these crisps would go very well with a salad cream or mayonnaise dip on the side. They were very flavoursome and I would have them again, but was still a little disappointed by the lack of roast pork in the overall flavour.
