Limited Edition Philadelphia Jalapeño (Sainsbury) By @Cinabar

Limited Edition Philadelphia Jalapeño

I saw this very pretty looking tub of Philadelphia Jalapeño cream cheese in Sainsburys and thought I’d try it out. We have had quite a few different editions of Philadelphia over the years, and I have particularly enjoyed some of the chocolate versions as a treat. I like spicy too, so thought I have some of this on toast. Notably though I tried it out on its own, rather than my favourite route for the regular Philadelphia which is with smoked salmon, yum.
The colourful tub had made me think that the contents would look brighter than they did. I think I was hoping for multi coloured chillies, after all the packet has red, green and yellow all over it. It was actually just the green jalapeños and as they weren’t a bright shade the contents looked a little dull. There was at least quite a few pieces of chilli mixed in and they became more prominent once it was spread on toast.

I thought they flavour was quite well balanced, the cheese still had the characteristic creamy flavour from Philadelphia, but the Jalapeño pieces added a nice spice and heat. It wasn’t too hot though, and I didn’t break a sweat. The pieces of Jalapeño didn’t add to the texture as they were cut small and soft, but I found myself enjoying the warmth. I think, as with all chilli products, this will be too mild for some, but I thought it was pitched about right for me. I'm looking forward to teaming it up with some ham on a sandwich for work.
