Kit Kat Hazelnut (Choose A Chunky Champion) [By @Cinabar]

This is my third bar out of the four new contenders to become the Kit Kat Chunky Champion. Basically Kit Kat has released Coconut, Choc Fudge, Hazelnut and Mint Kit Kat Chunky’s and the most popular (as per Facebook) gets to stay. I have already tried the coconut and the chocolate fudge version, but I had high hopes for this one. T o be honest this Kit Kat should have been my favourite. I love nuts and chocolate, so theoretically this ought to have been the one.
I unwrapped the new bar and was impressed by the aroma rich nutty tones and chocolate. Once I broke a piece off I could see that there was a layer of hazelnut butter sitting on top of the wafer, which looked like it provided a decent portion.
I bit in and allowed the chocolate and nut flavours to develop but somehow realised they were missing something. The major flavour was sweet, but it was lacking a stronger nut taste. I don’t mean to say that it wasn’t rich in hazelnut flavour, but it certainly didn’t quite do it for me in the way that it should have. Perhaps the problem comes from my love of the peanut butter variety, where there is a hint of saltiness that balances out the flavour so perfectly. That hint of salt just takes the edge off the sugar, where as this one seemed rather sweet. Either way, I am surprised to say I have to put this in the category of nice, (for it does nothing wrong). However it clearly isn’t my Kit Kat Chunky Champion.
If I’m totally honest I rate the Choc Fudge version over this one, and the Coconut one is still in the lead. I do still have the mint version to try, so we will have to wait and see and it is safe to say it could go either way!

I've been trying to look out for these bars but no such luck, where are you getting them from?

I felt the same about this one; it was just too sweet. Have you tried the Hazelnut cream Kitkat Chunky in the green wrapper yet? It's an imported version, I spotted some in Poundland today. They're much nicer than these.
