We drink quite a few different smoothies here at Foodstuff Finds, but they are almost always fruit based, occasionally with the addition of yoghurt. Spectre has an aversion to bananas so when I told him we had some new smoothies to try, his first reaction was to ask if they contained bananas. I said that it didn’t, but that it did contain kale, broccoli and spinach! He did seem quite curious about them!
Savse feel that smoothies shouldn’t be limited to the world of fruit, and mix in a selection of vegetables and other goodies so that you get all the vitamin goodness you need. To quote their marketing, “drink your greens”. They each contain two of your five a day.
As I am fighting off a summer cold I thought it would be good to try the Super Red which has a boost of Vitamin C. NLi10 would approve of these drinks as they are raw, unpasteurised and cold pressed rather than heat pasteurised which can reduce the nutrient content.
I decided to drink mine from the bottle, and gave it a little shake before I began. I was surprised to find the drink quite thin in texture, but really rather tasty. There is no added sugar so the flavour is quite zingy, sweet from the strawberries but sharp from the orange. I’ll be honest, I couldn’t tell that there were all those vegetables in the drink, there was a hint of something else, but mainly the drink just tasted fresh and tasty.
It was very easy to drink, and very refreshing for the hot days we are finally having! I loved this Super Red just as it is, perfect to add some vitamins to a back garden barbecue meat feast. I am hoping it helps boost my immune system and fight off this cold too! I can’t wait to try their other varieties; I’m hoping the interesting sounding Super Green with broccoli, pear, spinach, kale, kiwi, lemon and banana is as cleverly balanced too!
